Gate proceeds from Palomar College’s Pacific Coast Athletic Conference men’s /women’s basketball double-header on Friday, Feb. 15 will be donated to the American Cancer Society. The special fundraiser, to be held at the Palomar Dome, is part of a joint statewide effort initiated by the California Community College Men’s and Women’s Basketball Coaches Associations.
Opening the event will be Coach John O’Neill’s conference-leading men’s team versus San Diego City College at 5 p.m., followed by coach Leigh Marshall’s resurgent Comet women’s team versus inter-county-rival Grossmont at 7 p.m.
“We are asking our community to help us fill the Dome for this very special event,” said Director of Athletics Scott Cathcart. “It provides a perfect opportunity for our basketball teams and our institution to interface with the community in a cause that truly deserves our support.”
Funds from similar events at community colleges throughout the state will be pooled into one large donation from the CCCAA Men’s and Women’s basketball coaches. A presentation of the donation to representatives of the American Cancer Society is planned for the men’s and women’s state championships at Cosumnes River College in Sacramento in March.
