SAN MARCOS (July 5, 2013) – The Palomar College Governing Board approved the appointment of Adrian Gonzales as the Vice President of Student Services at their meeting on Tuesday, July 9,2013. Gonzales will begin his duties at Palomar College on September 3, 2013.

Gonzales joins the College after serving for two years as Interim Vice President of Student Affairs at the College of the Desert (COD) in Palm Desert, CA.  His prior experience with COD spans more than 12 years with several positions, including Dean of Student Support Programs and Services and Director of TRIO.  He began his career with the Ford Foundation in New York, serving as a Program Associate for the Education, Media, Arts & Culture Program.

His extensive duties in his new position will include directing the programs and services that are concerned with the general welfare and support of students including:  Admissions and Records; Associated Student Government; Career Center; Counseling & Matriculation; Disability Resource Center; Evaluations; Extended Opportunity Programs and Services; Financial Aid & Scholarships; Grant Funded Student Support Programs; Health Services; Intercollegiate Athletics; International Education; Palomar College Police Department; Student Activities; Student Placement; Student Rights and Discipline; Transfer Center; and Veterans’ Services.  He replaces Dr. Mark Vernoy, who is retiring from Palomar College after 37 years of service; he has served in the Vice President position for two years.

“We are looking forward to having Adrian join the Palomar College administration,” said President Robert P. Deegan.  “He will bring a strong understanding of student services leadership, which will be extremely important to the College as we continue to implement new requirements mandated by the Student Success Task Force.”

Gonzales holds a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from University of California, Los Angeles and a Master of Public Administration from the University of Washington, Seattle.
