Do you want to . . .<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Earn college credit for working in a job related to your potential career field?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Have the opportunity to earn money while learning (an internship may be paid or unpaid)?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Learn what actual work is like in your potential career?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h6 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>If you answered &#8220;YES&#8221; to any of these questions, then enroll in a Cooperative Education course to do an LIT internship!<\/strong><\/h6>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What&#8217;s Involved<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p>To receive credit for an internship, you must:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Find an internship job. (Please use professional language when composing the initial interest emails, and have your resume ready to provide if requested from internship sites.)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Register for a Cooperative Education (CE 100) to get Palomar College credit for your internship.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Work your internship and complete a few other requirements during the course.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Follow the steps to set up and complete your internship to earn Palomar units.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a name=\"5\"><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Steps to Set Up Your Internship<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Find and set up your internship job <\/strong>before the session starts (full semester or fast track options are available).\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>You can find an internship site on your own, or contact someone from our <a href=\"https:\/\/www.palomar.edu\/library\/library-and-information-technology-program\/lit-internships\/#3\">list of sites.<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If your employer isn&#8217;t listed below, ask them to review <a style=\"background-color: #fefefe;color: #c9131a\" href=\"https:\/\/www.palomar.edu\/library\/lit-internships-information-for-employers\/\">LIT Information for Employers<\/a> so they know what is expected of them. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Register for CE 100.<\/strong>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>See <a href=\"https:\/\/www.palomar.edu\/library\/library-and-information-technology-program\/lit-internships\/#1\">available course sections <\/a>for the current and upcoming semesters.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>You may register for 2, 3, or 4 units. 1-unit internships are available by special arrangement only &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.palomar.edu\/library\/library-and-information-technology-program\/lit-internships\/#8\">contact the LIT Internship Coordinator<\/a> for more information.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Be sure to register for the number of units that match the hours you can work to receive credit for the internship. See the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.palomar.edu\/library\/library-and-information-technology-program\/lit-internships\/#15\">hours required. <\/a> <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Consult <\/strong>the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.palomar.edu\/schedule\/\">Class Schedule<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.palomar.edu\/cooped\/\">Cooperative Education website<\/a> for additional information.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Notify<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.palomar.edu\/library\/libinfo\/library-faculty-and-staff-directory\/\">Alexandra Doyle Bauer<\/a>, LIT Cooperative Education Coordinator, that you\u2019re planning an internship.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><a name=\"2\"><\/a>Steps to Complete Your Internship<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Attend a 1-hour internship orientation <\/strong>at the start of each session,&nbsp; <span style=\"font-size: inherit\">where you will receive additional instructions and forms to complete. Orientation dates will be listed in your enrollment confirmation or contact the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.palomar.edu\/library\/library-and-information-technology-program\/lit-internships\/#8\">Cooperative Education Office. <\/a> <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Complete and submit<\/strong> all required course documents and assignments throughout the session, including monthly timesheets and reports. You will receive more information at the internship orientation, but some of this information is available now on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.palomar.edu\/cooped\/\">Cooperative Education website<\/a>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Meet<\/strong> once at the end of the session with your Cooperative Education instructor.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong style=\"font-size: inherit\">Work<\/strong> the required minimum number of hours. This depends on the number of units you enroll in and whether the internship is paid or unpaid (volunteer):\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>1 unit &nbsp; = &nbsp;54 volunteer hours<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>2 units = 108 volunteer hours<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>3 units = 162 volunteer hours<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>4 units = 216 volunteer hours<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><em>REMEMBER!<\/em><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>It is your responsibility to find and arrange your internship.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Make sure your internship schedule allows you to work the required minimum number of hours during the semester.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Confirm that your internship site supervisor is willing to monitor your progress, including:\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>identify 3 internship learning objectives with you<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>verify the hours you work and sign your timesheet each month<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>meet once with your Cooperative Education instructor<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>complete some other requirements (see<a style=\"background-color: #fefefe;color: #c9131a\" href=\"https:\/\/www.palomar.edu\/library\/lit-internships-information-for-employers\/\"> LIT Information for Employers<\/a>). <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><a name=\"1\"><\/a>Available Course Sections<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Course Instructor for sections for LIT students are listed as <em>Jarvinen, Jason<\/em>. Apprentice may oversee volunteers and may also be asked to perform circulation tasks. Apprentice will also be expected to create a final report or presentation on their work.
