information literacy skills.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-left\"><strong>Research Guide <\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.palomar.edu\/library\/instruction-information-literacy-services__trashed\/research-guide-request\/\">Library Research Guide request form<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Upon the request of course instructors, librarians provide customized library research guides designed to help students master specific research skills.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For more information about Library Instruction or Library Research Guide requests please contact:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>April Cunningham, Instruction\/Information Literacy Librarian<br><a href=\"mailto:acunningham@palomar.edu\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">acunningham@palomar.edu<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Add a Librarian To Your Course<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>If you are teaching online, hyflex, or use Canvas for students&#8217; discussions or assignments, you can also embed a librarian in your class.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In collaboration with you, embedded librarians can:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Create pages, quizzes, discussion, and modules about research, avoiding plagiarism and citing sources.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Participate in students&#8217; discussions about research to offer feedback and suggestions.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Create scoring and feedback rubrics related to finding, evaluating, and citing sources.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Give feedback on assignments that students submit through Canvas (we can also assign scores if you want us to).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Update library-created materials that you&#8217;ve embedded in your Canvas course.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>To add a librarian to your course, follow these steps:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Contact April Cunningham, the Instruction &amp; Information Literacy Librarian, at <a href=\"mailto:acunningham@palomar.edu\">acunningham@palomar.edu<\/a>. &nbsp;A brief meeting to discuss your goals for the embedded librarian will help April assign your request to the right librarian.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Once April has confirmed which librarian will be embedded in your course, use the People menu in your course to add the librarian.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Meet with the embedded librarian in Zoom or on-site to establish deadlines and discuss details of what the librarian will create and how they will engage with your students.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Information Literacy<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>In support of its Mission, the Palomar College Library collaborates with faculty from various academic departments to assess and improve students&#8217; information literacy skills. <a href=\"https:\/\/accjc.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/ACCJC-2024-Accreditation-Standards.pdf\">ACCJC\/WASC<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/accjc.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/ACCJC-2024-Accreditation-Standards.pdf\">defines information literacy<\/a>, also known as information competency, as the &#8220;capability to access, evaluate, and use information in fulfillment of coursework and independent study.&#8221; <br>(<em><strong>Note: Sections 2.3 of the Standards pertains to Information Literacy<\/strong><\/em>)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><p style=\"line-height: 1.5\"><strong>Information Literacy Student Learning Outcomes<\/strong> &#8211; The library created a set of information literacy learning outcomes to assess library instruction and to promote the integration of information literacy across the curriculum.<\/p><br><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><p style=\"line-height: 1.5\"><strong>Faculty\/Librarian Collaboration<\/strong> &#8211; Palomar Librarians are willing and interested in working with faculty to integrate information literacy into course curricula.&nbsp;We will consult with faculty to:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Develop course specific information literacy student learning outcomes<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Create successful research assignments<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Teach and assess information literacy skills<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><p style=\"line-height: 1.5\"><strong>Instructional Materials<\/strong> &#8211; the Palomar Library has a bank of information literacy instructional materials that course instructors may integrate into their courses.
