{"id":3639,"date":"2016-11-28T12:18:34","date_gmt":"2016-11-28T20:18:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.palomar.edu\/hr\/?page_id=3639"},"modified":"2025-06-04T08:46:03","modified_gmt":"2025-06-04T15:46:03","slug":"american-sign-language-asl-interpreter-computer-aided-real-time-captioning-cart-information","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.palomar.edu\/hr\/american-sign-language-asl-interpreter-computer-aided-real-time-captioning-cart-information\/","title":{"rendered":"Accessibility Services"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreter\/ Computer-Aided Real-Time Captioning (CART) Information.<\/p>\n<h2>Students<\/h2>\n<p>Students requesting ASL Interpreting\/CART services should contact the Disability Resource Center (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.palomar.edu\/drc\/\">DRC website<\/a>)\u00a0or 760-744-1150 x2375.\u00a0\u00a0DRC\u00a0works with students to arrange appropriate accommodation requests made by students.<\/p>\n<h2>Members of the Public<\/h2>\n<p>Members of the general public needing ASL Interpreting\/CART services to access Palomar-sponsored events shall request an accommodation through the campus organization sponsoring the event at least ten (10) business days prior to the event, if at all possible.\u00a0 Refer back to the event notice for\u00a0contact information.<\/p>\n<h2>Employees<\/h2>\n<p>Human Resource Services, with the assistance of the Program Coordinator of Interpreting Services (Interpreter Coordinator\/IC), coordinates ASL Interpreting\/CART services for Palomar College employees who request assistance in areas of\u00a0instructional needs, workshop or meeting facilitation, or District-sponsored events. \u00a0The following steps will help ensure that ASL Interpreting\/CART services are documented (within the Job Accommodation Procedure listed below), communicated, and provided in a timely fashion. These steps ensure equal opportunity for employees with disabilities as well as ensures Palomar College meets its legal obligations.<\/p>\n<p>In order to process requests in a timely manner we ask that all requests for single-event ASL interpreting\/CART services be made at least <strong><u>five business\u00a0days<\/u><\/strong>\u00a0in advance.\u00a0 Interpreters may not be secured for requests made with less than five business days&#8217; notice.\u00a0\u00a0We will make every effort to fill a request and provide an update on the status of your request 24 hours prior to your event.<\/p>\n<p>To request ASL interpreting services for a semester-length course, we ask that requests are submitted no less than <strong><u>two weeks<\/u><\/strong>\u00a0in advance to assist us with securing consistent service provision.<\/p>\n<h3>Begin the request process:<\/h3>\n<ol>\n<li>Establish a service need\u00a0by completing the\u00a0Employee Accommodation Form, located at Palomar College&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.palomar.edu\/hr\/employees\/accomodation\/\">Employee Accommodation website <\/a>(This process will only need to be completed once,\u00a0on\u00a0the original request.).\u00a0\u00a0The employee\u00a0will be asked to provide written\u00a0verification of the disability appropriate to the request when submitting the Employee Accommodation Form. \u00a0The written\u00a0verification must be from a\u00a0medical provider who has knowledge of the employee&#8217;s disability and the functional limitations imposed by said disability.<\/li>\n<li>Submit the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.palomar.edu\/hr\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/157\/2019\/04\/Palomar-Employee-Request-for-Reasonable-Accommodation-Packet.pdf\">Employee Accommodation Form<\/a>\u00a0to the Benefits Specialist in Human Resource Services.\u00a0\u00a0Make sure to review the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.palomar.edu\/hr\/employees\/accomodation\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Job Accommodation <\/a>website for other important details.\u00a0Once the accommodation has been approved by Human Resource Services, no further accommodation form will be required for future ASL Interpreting\/CART service requests, unless the disability or accommodation request changes.<\/li>\n<li>Complete and submit the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.palomar.edu\/hr\/asl-interpretercart-service-agreement\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">ASL Interpreter\/CART Service Agreement<\/a>.\u00a0 Agreement should be submitted at least once, prior to the employee\u2019s initial request for ASL Interpreter\/CART services.<\/li>\n<li>Complete and submit the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.palomar.edu\/hr\/interpretercart-service-request-form\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">ASL Interpreter\/CART Service Request Form <\/a>for each service need.\u00a0 The Program Coordinator of Interpreting Services will review the request and contact the employee with details regarding the request.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h4>Contact:<\/h4>\n<p><a href=\"mailto:wcorbin@palomar.edu\">Wendy Corbin<\/a>, X-2889<br \/>\nVeronica Sadowski, X-3053<br \/>\n<a href=\"mailto:benefits@palomar.edu\">benefits@palomar.edu<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreter\/ Computer-Aided Real-Time Captioning (CART) Information.
