{"id":211,"date":"2013-02-12T12:43:27","date_gmt":"2013-02-12T20:43:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.palomar.edu\/hr\/?page_id=211"},"modified":"2025-11-25T09:26:31","modified_gmt":"2025-11-25T17:26:31","slug":"retirement","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.palomar.edu\/hr\/employees\/retirement\/","title":{"rendered":"Palomar Retirement Benefits"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Palomar Community College District provides retirement benefits to qualifying employees.<\/p>\n<p>CAUTION: Medicare-eligible individuals, be aware of phone scams in connection with Medicare Prescription Drug Programs. <a href=\"https:\/\/cahealthadvocates.org\/hicap\/\">Free Medicare advocacy is available through HICAP<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h2>Palomar Retirement Benefits<\/h2>\n<h3>Group I<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Hired prior to 3\/1\/94, employed for 20 years or more and retire at age 50 (PERS participants), age 55 (STRS participants), or above.<\/li>\n<li>Medicare Part A and Part B age 65 enrollment is mandatory for the retiree and covered dependents.<\/li>\n<li>Medicare Part A and Part B must be connected to the district insurance plans.<\/li>\n<li>Employees who retire on or after 10\/1\/2020 are required to pay the same monthly insurance contributions as active employees.<\/li>\n<li>Retiree and eligible dependents will receive medical and dental benefits for the life of the retiree.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/sisc.webex.com\/recordingservice\/sites\/sisc\/recording\/playback\/42ffe949913745a9830234e3b4c25192\">SISC Medicare 101:\u00a0Password = SISCMedicare101<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Group II<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Hired prior to 3\/1\/94 with at least 10 years but less than 20 years of service.<\/li>\n<li>Hired after 3\/1\/94 with at least 10 years of service and retire at age 50 (Classic PERS participants), age 55 (STRS participants), or above.<\/li>\n<li>Medicare Part A and Part B age 65 enrollment is mandatory for covered dependents.<\/li>\n<li>Medicare Part A and Part B must be connected to the district insurance plans.<\/li>\n<li>Employees who retire on or after 10\/1\/2020 are required to pay the same monthly insurance contributions as active employees.<\/li>\n<li>Retiree and eligible dependents will receive medical benefits until the retiree reaches age 65 Medicare eligibility, and dental benefits will continue for the life of the retiree.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/sisc.webex.com\/recordingservice\/sites\/sisc\/recording\/playback\/42ffe949913745a9830234e3b4c25192\">SISC Medicare 101:\u00a0Password = SISCMedicare101<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Group III<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Employees who terminate with less than ten years of employment are not eligible for District-paid health benefits.<\/li>\n<li>May continue health benefits on a self-pay basis for 18 months (COBRA).<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/sisc.webex.com\/recordingservice\/sites\/sisc\/recording\/playback\/42ffe949913745a9830234e3b4c25192\">SISC Medicare 101:\u00a0Password = SISCMedicare101<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>NOTE: Permanent contract employees who work less than full-time are eligible for District-paid health and dental benefits after working the equivalent to full time, 10 months (e.g., a 50% part-time employee would complete the full-time, 10 months eligibility described for Group I in 40 years) as described for Groups I and II.<\/p>\n<h2>Pension &amp;
