{"id":12,"date":"2016-03-11T11:08:42","date_gmt":"2016-03-11T19:08:42","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.palomar.edu\/pages\/guidelines\/?page_id=12"},"modified":"2016-03-23T14:48:41","modified_gmt":"2016-03-23T21:48:41","slug":"permanent-signage","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.palomar.edu\/guidelines\/permanent-signage\/","title":{"rendered":"Permanent Signage"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>Vehicle Identification<\/h2>\n<ol>\n<li><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Markings<\/span>: each Palomar College-owned vehicle must display clear identification which shows that the vehicle belongs to the college.\u00a0 This identification can be the District logo, the athletic logo or icon, or a combination of the two.<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Safety<\/span>: &#8220;How am I driving?&#8221; information should appear on the back of each vehicle.<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Emergency<\/span>: District emergency contact information should appear on the back of each vehicle.<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Identification<\/span>: a vehicle number should also appear on the back of each vehicle.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h2>Buildings and Grounds<\/h2>\n<h3>\u00a0A: Campus &#8220;Way-finding System&#8221;:<\/h3>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">The Facilities Master Plan proposes a campus directional way-finding system that includes directional maps, signage and related information to address the pedestrian traffic patterns around the campus.<\/p>\n<h3>B: Building Layout and Identification:<\/h3>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">The master-planning architect will recommend changes in the existing layout and assignment of campus buildings. This may include the renaming or renumbering of the buildings.<\/p>\n<h3>C: Building Signage:<\/h3>\n<ol>\n<li><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Standard Door Signs<\/span>:\u00a0 The standard door signs are black plastic with engraved white letters and are installed on both sides of the door.\u00a0 The signs are centered and mounted 72 inches from the bottom of the door.<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">ADA Door Signs<\/span>:\u00a0 These signs are black plastic with raised white letters and Grade II Braille and are installed on the wall adjacent to the latch side of the door.\u00a0 The installation must conform to the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) requirements.<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Slotted Door Signs<\/span>:\u00a0 Slotted door signs contain spaces or slots for various titles, such as the name of the office occupant, department, or class information.<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Building Identification Signage<\/span>:\u00a0 Large, removable sign panels indicate the assigned building number or letters.\u00a0 These signs should be placed on the ends of each building and\/or on the corners of the overhang nearest to the sidewalk.\u00a0 Each building should have at least one large building identification sign visible from the roadway for use by emergency response units.\u00a0 Color and style shall match the way-finding system.<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Roof Identification<\/span>:\u00a0 The building identification should be painted on the roof of each building for use by law enforcement and emergency response personnel.<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Large Building Complex Identification<\/span>:\u00a0 Any large complex of buildings should have &#8220;you are here&#8221; maps posted at various locations throughout the complex. The type and style of the maps should match the way-finding directional system.<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Department Identification<\/span>:\u00a0 A standard size and type of sign should be posted on buildings to identify the departments that are housed in that building.\u00a0 The color and style will match the way-finding system.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h3>D: Parking Lot Signage:<\/h3>\n<ol>\n<li>Each parking lot should have signage at the entrances that identifies the type of parking allowed, rules and regulations, the parking lot number, where to obtain parking permits, and emergency information.<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0There should be section numbers posted in all of the large parking lots to assist people in identifying the location where they parked their vehicle.\u00a0 The sections should be identified with the &#8220;A&#8221; section closest to the buildings, then \u201cB\u201d and \u201cC\u201d, etc. as people walk away from the center of the campus.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h3>E: Electronic Bulletin Boards:<\/h3>\n<ol>\n<li>One electronic bulletin board or \u201cmarquee\u201d is location at the campus entrance on Mission Road.\u00a0 Requests for messages on the marquee are submitted to and approved by the Public Affairs\u00a0Office.<\/li>\n<li>There should be a several electronic bulletin boards located at various areas around the campus and coordinated by the Public Information Office.\u00a0 The bulletin boards should be linked so they can distribute general and emergency information.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h2>Streets and Freeways<\/h2>\n<ol>\n<li>All freeway signage in this area is installed under the guidelines of the CalTrans Standards Manual.<\/li>\n<li>The Advancement Office works with CalTrans and local city jurisdictions to identify the size and type of street and highway signs allowed.<\/li>\n<li>This office also recommends locations where new signs are needed to assist people in locating the College campus and educational centers.<\/li>\n<li>Current roadway signage also indicates speed limits, traffic flow, pedestrian crosswalks, stop signs, yield signs.
