Faculty Senate Guidelines

Academic & Professional Matters Board Policy 2510A.

Pursuant to rules adopted by the Board of Governors of the California Community Colleges, the Governing Board elects to rely primarily on the advice and judgment of the Faculty Senate on academic and professional matters.

B. Also called 10+1+1, the term “academic and professional matters” means the following 12 policy and procedures matters. Click here to learn more.

Curriculum, including establishing prerequisites and placing courses within disciplines
Degree and certificate requirements
Grading policies
Educational program development
Standards or policies regarding student preparation and success
Governance structures, as related to faculty roles
Faculty roles and involvement in accreditation processes, including self-study and annual reports
Policies for faculty professional development activities
Processes for program review
Processes for institutional planning and budget development
Faculty Hiring Policy, Faculty, and Faculty Hiring Procedures
Other academic and professional matters as mutually agreed upon by the Governing Board and the Faculty Senate. As other such academic and professional matters are identified, they will be added to this list.

C. The Governing Board, through the Superintendent/President or designee, will consult with the Faculty Senate when adopting policies and procedures on academic and professional matters.

Policies and procedures on academic and professional matters shall not be adopted by the Governing Board or implemented until consultation with the Faculty Senate has occurred.

D. Modifications of this policy are to be considered a professional matter and fall within the scope of this agreement. GB 10/13/92

Note: “Rely primarily” means that the Board will rely primarily upon the advice and judgment of the academic senate.
