{"id":734,"date":"2015-10-28T17:43:49","date_gmt":"2015-10-28T17:43:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.palomar.edu\/facilities\/?page_id=734"},"modified":"2025-03-18T11:43:39","modified_gmt":"2025-03-18T18:43:39","slug":"transportation-vehicle-idling-policy","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.palomar.edu\/facilities\/transportation-vehicle-idling-policy\/","title":{"rendered":"Transportation &#8211; Vehicle Idling Policy"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"style34\" style=\"text-align: justify\">College employees have been asked to help minimize air pollution and maximize fuel efficiency by operating College vehicles and equipment in an environmentally and economically responsible manner.<\/p>\n<p class=\"style35\" style=\"text-align: justify\">It is known that:<\/p>\n<ul style=\"text-align: justify\">\n<li class=\"style32\"><span class=\"style21\">One hour of idling consumes approximately one gallon of fuel.<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"style32\"><span class=\"style21\">Idling for one hour equates to approximately 33 miles of engine wear on a standard automobile.<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"style32\"><span class=\"style21\">Idling contributes to poor air quality that may result in cost mandated controls.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"style34\" style=\"text-align: justify\">Drivers of College vehicles are being asked to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li class=\"style32\" style=\"text-align: justify\"><span class=\"style21\">Not allow College vehicles and equipment to idle for any length of time (five minutes is the maximum) unless idling the vehicle is necessary to accomplish work-related tasks.<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"style32\" style=\"text-align: justify\"><span class=\"style21\">Obey posted speed limits.<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li class=\"style32\"><span class=\"style21\">Excessive speed reduces fuel economy, increases air pollution, creates hazardous driving conditions, and is unlawful.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"style32\" style=\"text-align: justify\"><span class=\"style21\">Plan and map out trips to minimize distances traveled.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>College employees have been asked to help minimize air pollution and maximize fuel efficiency by operating College vehicles and equipment in an environmentally and economically responsible manner.
