{"id":515,"date":"2015-10-27T20:53:02","date_gmt":"2015-10-27T20:53:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.palomar.edu\/facilities\/?page_id=515"},"modified":"2025-03-18T11:30:24","modified_gmt":"2025-03-18T18:30:24","slug":"routine-services-escondido-center","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.palomar.edu\/facilities\/routine-services-escondido-center\/","title":{"rendered":"Routine Services &#8211; Education Centers"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"style22\" style=\"text-align: justify\"><strong>Custodial Methods<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"style9\" style=\"text-align: justify\">The Palomar College Facilities\/Custodial Services employees, at the Escondido Center, provide services to over 78,477 gross square footage.\u00a0 They perform most of their duties in two main shifts.\u00a0 First, our dayshift has a start time of 7:00 a.m. and runs until 4:00 p.m.\u00a0 Our nightshift has a start time of 9:00 p.m. and ends at 6:00 a.m.<\/p>\n<p class=\"style9\" style=\"text-align: justify\">The Palomar College Escondido Center is divided into custodial areas\/zones that are tended to by a group of individuals and their respective Team Lead.\u00a0This change has proven to be more productive, easier to supervise, and requires less equipment.<\/p>\n<p class=\"style9\" style=\"text-align: justify\">A strong commitment to the College is the driving factor for this Facilities team to perform their best.\u00a0 They value their commitment and combine it with pride and a strong sense of family to function effectively as team.\u00a0 Each individual consistently participates to the overall team success, as you will often find individuals covering areas for others when assistance is required.\u00a0 Our staff follows policies and procedures that assure compliance with campus standards, California Health and Safety Codes, California Code of Regulations, OSHA standards and San Diego County ordinances.<\/p>\n<p class=\"style11\" style=\"text-align: justify\">The following duties are generally performed by Custodial Services on a <span class=\"style23\">daily basis<\/span> in Classrooms &amp; Offices:<\/p>\n<ul style=\"text-align: justify\">\n<li class=\"style24\"><span class=\"style4\">Empty trash cans in offices, classrooms, and academic\/administrative common areas<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"style24\"><span class=\"style4\">Clean chalk boards, chalk trays, erasers, and dry erase boards in classrooms<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"style24\"><span class=\"style4\">Empty out classroom pencil sharpeners<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"style24\"><span class=\"style4\">Check office floors, spot clean floors and clean-up spills<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"style24\"><span class=\"style4\">Clean restrooms and restock paper products<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"style24\"><span class=\"style4\">Empty trash cans throughout the campus grounds<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"style24\"><span class=\"style4\">Pick-up trash around buildings<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"style25\"><span class=\"style4\">Clean drinking fountains<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"style26\" style=\"text-align: justify\">The following duties are generally performed by Custodial Services on a <span class=\"style27\"><em>weekly basis<\/em><\/span> in Classrooms &amp; Offices:<\/p>\n<ul style=\"text-align: justify\">\n<li class=\"style24\"><span class=\"style4\">Dust mop or sweep non-carpeted floors completely<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"style25\"><span class=\"style4\">Vacuum carpeted floors completely<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"style26\" style=\"text-align: justify\">The following duties are generally performed by Custodial Services on a <span class=\"style27\"><em>daily basis<\/em><\/span> in all District Restrooms:<\/p>\n<ul style=\"text-align: justify\">\n<li class=\"style24\"><span class=\"style4\">Flush toilets and urinals. Check for stoppage.<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"style24\"><span class=\"style4\">Remove trash, empty napkin receptacles and replace paper bag<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"style24\"><span class=\"style4\">Replenish supplies (soap, paper towels, toilet papers, and toilet seat covers)<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"style24\"><span class=\"style4\">Dust (with a damp cloth or sponge) tops of mirror frames, top of tiles, top of toilet stall partitions, all containers, lights, vents, and shelves<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"style24\"><span class=\"style4\">Dust mop floor<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"style24\"><span class=\"style4\">Spot clean doors, walls, partitions, and waste receptacles<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"style24\"><span class=\"style4\">Clean sink basins, rinse and polish chrome, and clean mirrors<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"style24\"><span class=\"style4\">Clean toilets and rinse with disinfectant solution<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"style24\"><span class=\"style4\">Clean around and behind bowls, toilets, and urinals<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"style24\"><span class=\"style4\">Wet mop floor, remove all scuff marks and clean in corners<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"style25\"><span class=\"style4\">Pour one gallon of clear water down the floor drain to prevent sewage odor<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"style22\" Request Form<\/a>.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"auto-style2\" style=\"text-align: justify\">Personal Items<\/p>\n<ul style=\"text-align: justify\">\n<li class=\"auto-style3\"><span class=\"style25\">You will be responsible for moving your own personal items (plants, fountain pens, photographs, personal papers, money, lamps, radios, etc.).\u00a0 Our employees cannot be held responsible for any missing personal items that were left behind.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"auto-style2\" style=\"text-align: justify\">Other Items<\/p>\n<ul style=\"text-align: justify\">\n<li class=\"auto-style3\"><span class=\"style25\">Have layout maps of your new area posted on each door or provide a copy with the Facilities Work Request and Data\/Telephone Service href=\"https:\/\/www.palomar.edu\/facilities\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/129\/2015\/10\/CardAccessKeyRequestForm.pdf\">Key\/Card Access Request Form<\/a>\u00a0for each employee for their new office.<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"auto-style3\"><span class=\"style25\">Submit <a href=\"https:\/\/www.palomar.edu\/facilities\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/129\/2015\/10\/CardAccessKeyReturnForm.pdf\">Key\/Card Access Return Form<\/a>\u00a0for each employee for their old date.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p class=\"style22\" style=\"text-align: justify\"><strong>Spill Clean-Up<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"style23\" style=\"text-align: justify\">Custodial Services is responsible for the general cleaning of all academic and administrative buildings on campus.<\/p>\n<p class=\"style23\" style=\"text-align: justify\">If materials (bodily fluids, drinks and food) are spilled on holidays, please contact Campus Police at extension 2289 or 760\/891-7273.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><strong>Pest Control<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span class=\"style25\">For pest control problems including bees, ants, roaches, mice, rats, spiders or termites, please contact the Facilities Office at extension 2629 or via email at <\/span><a Custodial Services to visit the room and take whatever measure possible.\u00a0 If this does not suffice, an exterminator will be asked to make a visit to the infested area during a routine visit to the campus and will follow-up in subsequent visits to see to it that the pest is controlled.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><strong>Skilled Maintenance Technicians<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Our Skilled Maintenance Technicians main responsibilities are to respond and complete minor maintenance calls for the Palomar College campuses.\u00a0 The Skilled Maintenance Technicians responsibility is to respond, evaluate and make recommendations.\u00a0 The SMT completes the call if it is within their scope.\u00a0 If the service call is outside the SMT\u2019s scope, the maintenance repair call is returned to the Facilities Office to be redirected to the appropriate trade.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">The following are examples of services provided by the Skilled Maintenance Technicians that are generally <em>not chargeable<\/em> to the requesting department:<\/p>\n<ul style=\"text-align: justify\">\n<li>Ceiling\/Roof leaks<\/li>\n<li>Install banners\/signage.<\/li>\n<li>Lubricate hinges<\/li>\n<li>Replace ceiling tiles<\/li>\n<li>Repair\/replace floor tiles<\/li>\n<li>Repair\/replace door closures<\/li>\n<li>Repair and replace missing cove base (not entire rooms)<\/li>\n<li>Repair downspouts and gutters<\/li>\n<li>Repair some broken furniture (i.e., chairs, desks, tables and style=\"text-align: justify\"><b><i>NOTE<\/i><\/b>:\u00a0 From time-to-time, campus personnel purchases furniture that has not been pre-assembled.\u00a0 Others request custom-made cabinetry or shelving for their offices or classrooms.\u00a0 With labor costs as they are, it is normally to the benefit of the District to purchase pre-assembled furniture and shelving.\u00a0 Only under extraordinary circumstances, can requests for furniture assembly or cabinetry be filled.\u00a0 Purchasing pre-assembled furniture and shelving will eliminate this problem.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><u><strong>Nature of Work\/Skilled Maintenance Technicians<\/strong><\/u>:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Skilled Maintenance Technicians have skills in many different crafts.\u00a0 They repair and maintain machines, mechanical equipment, and buildings and work on plumbing, electrical, and air-conditioning and heating systems.\u00a0 They build partitions, fix windows, doors, floors, and other parts of building structures.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Skilled Maintenance Technicians inspect and diagnose problems and determine the best way to correct them, frequently checking blueprints, repair manuals, and parts catalogs.\u00a0 They obtain supplies and repair parts from distributors or storerooms.\u00a0 Using common hand and power tools such as screwdrivers, saws, drills, wrenches, and hammers, as well as specialized equipment and electronic testing devices, these workers replace or fix worn or broken parts, where necessary.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><strong>Skilled Maintenance Technicians \u2013 Parking Lots<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Our Skilled Maintenance Technicians \u2013 Parking Lots main responsibilities are to perform daily inspections of parking lots, roadways and signage for maintenance and repair needs, ensure parking lots and roadways are clear and safe.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">The following are examples of services provided by the Skilled Maintenance Technicians that are generally <em>not chargeable<\/em> to the requesting department:<\/p>\n<ul style=\"text-align: justify\">\n<li>Dead animal removal<\/li>\n<li>Paint crosswalks, directional arrows, curbs and strips in roads and parking lots; repair cracks and potholes in roads as needed.<\/li>\n<li>Repair and\/or install news signs and sign posts in parking lots and roads as needed.<\/li>\n<li>Street sweeping<\/li>\n<li>Trash Removal<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align:
