Facilities Operations"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"style10\" style=\"text-align: justify\">Crucial to the successful education of our students is a healthy learning environment that includes structurally safe facilities and grounds that satisfactorily comply with environmental standards and conditions.\u00a0\u00a0 Schools that maintain a clean and orderly environment experience the many benefits that come from pride and ownership among students, faculty and the support of the community.<\/p>\n<p class=\"style10\" style=\"text-align: justify\">Preventive Maintenance is a high priority service in our approach to comprehensive maintenance programs.\u00a0 PM is an effective method of avoiding potential failure of facilities equipment and systems.\u00a0 Through an inventory and scheduling system, work crews are assigned to perform inspections, adjustments, cleaning and routine service on virtually all facility related major equipment and systems.<\/p>\n<p class=\"style10\" style=\"text-align: justify\">The goal of preventive maintenance, as a component of a facilities maintenance system, is to maximize the useful life of all building and grounds systems.\u00a0 The requirement for preventive maintenance versus breakdown maintenance was recognized by the Facilities Department many years ago.\u00a0 In 1980, the department took a positive step in setting up a program that would benefit all Facilities staff.\u00a0 Working hours were rescheduled so work could be completed in classrooms without interrupting instruction.\u00a0 Several members of the Facilities crew begin work at 5:00 a.m. on the Monday through Friday shift.<\/p>\n<p class=\"style10\" style=\"text-align: justify\">Preventive maintenance is scheduled on two buildings a week; this schedule allows the staff to completely check every room in every building at least twice per year.<\/p>\n<p class=\"style10\" style=\"text-align: justify\">Campus employees are encouraged to report any deficiencies as they occur.<\/p>\n<p class=\"style10\" style=\"text-align: justify\">Requests for emergency services will be received at the Escondido Center Facilities Operations Office during normal working hours by calling extension 8104.\u00a0 After these hours and on weekends as well as holidays, please contact Campus Police at extension 2289 or 760\/7891-7273.\u00a0 Requests for routine services will be received at the Escondido Center Facilities Operations Office during normal working hours by calling extension 8104 or by contacting the Facilities Office during normal working hours by calling extension 2629 or via\u00a0<a href=\"mailto:FacilitiesRemedy@palomar.edu\">Facilities Remedy<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"style11\" style=\"text-align: justify\">The following duties are generally performed by Custodial Services on a <span class=\"style23\">daily basis<\/span> in Classrooms &amp; Offices:<\/p>\n<ul style=\"text-align: justify\">\n<li class=\"style24\"><span class=\"style4\">Empty trash cans in offices, classrooms, and academic\/administrative common areas<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"style24\"><span class=\"style4\">Clean chalk boards, chalk trays, erasers, and dry erase boards in classrooms<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"style24\"><span class=\"style4\">Empty out classroom pencil sharpeners<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"style24\"><span class=\"style4\">Check office floors, spot clean floors and clean-up spills<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"style24\"><span class=\"style4\">Clean restrooms and restock paper products<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"style24\"><span class=\"style4\">Empty trash cans throughout the campus grounds<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"style24\"><span class=\"style4\">Pick-up trash around buildings<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"style25\"><span class=\"style4\">Clean drinking fountains<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"style26\" style=\"text-align: justify\">The following duties are generally performed by Custodial Services on a <span class=\"style27\"><em>weekly basis<\/em><\/span> in Classrooms &amp; Offices:<\/p>\n<ul style=\"text-align: justify\">\n<li class=\"style24\"><span class=\"style4\">Dust mop or sweep non-carpeted floors completely<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"style25\"><span class=\"style4\">Vacuum carpeted floors completely<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"style26\" style=\"text-align: justify\">The following duties are generally performed by Custodial Services on a <span class=\"style27\"><em>daily basis<\/em><\/span> in all District Restrooms:<\/p>\n<ul style=\"text-align: justify\">\n<li class=\"style24\"><span class=\"style4\">Flush toilets and urinals. Check for stoppage.<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"style24\"><span class=\"style4\">Remove trash, empty napkin receptacles and replace paper bag<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"style24\"><span class=\"style4\">Replenish supplies (soap, paper towels, toilet papers, and toilet seat covers)<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"style24\"><span class=\"style4\">Dust (with a damp cloth or sponge) tops of mirror frames, top of tiles, top of toilet stall partitions, all containers, lights, vents, and shelves<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"style24\"><span class=\"style4\">Dust mop floor<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"style24\"><span class=\"style4\">Spot clean doors, walls, partitions, and waste receptacles<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"style24\"><span class=\"style4\">Clean sink basins, rinse and polish chrome, and clean mirrors<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"style24\"><span class=\"style4\">Clean toilets and rinse with disinfectant solution<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"style24\"><span class=\"style4\">Clean around and behind bowls, toilets, and urinals<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"style24\"><span class=\"style4\">Wet mop floor, remove all scuff marks and clean in corners<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"style25\"><span class=\"style4\">Pour one gallon of clear water down the floor drain to prevent sewage odor<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"style41\" style=\"text-align: justify\">Below is a list of the tasks Facilities Operations performs pertaining to the Preventative Maintenance Schedule below:<\/p>\n<ul style=\"text-align: justify\">\n<li class=\"style42\"><span class=\"style44\">Check and tighten screws, nuts, and bolts on door hardware<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"style42\"><span class=\"style44\">Check and lube locksets; ensure door latches close<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"style42\"><span class=\"style44\">Check to ensure door is not binding; adjust as necessary<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"style42\"><span class=\"style44\">Check for ADA and standard door signage\/mounting<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"style42\"><span class=\"style44\">Check and lube opening window assembles\/security<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"style42\"><span class=\"style44\">Check and repair cabinet doors, drawers and hardware<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"style42\"><span class=\"style44\">Check and repair any damaged wood trim\/moldings<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"style42\"><span class=\"style44\">Check and repair any damaged furniture, desks, chairs, etc.<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"style42\"><span class=\"style44\">Check for and replace any damaged windows<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"style42\"><span class=\"style44\">Check and repair mini-blinds, curtains, and drapes as necessary<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"style42\"><span class=\"style44\">Check fire extinguisher mountings and charge;
