Our Maintenance Painters are responsible for regular and specialty requested jobs or projects involving painting, dry wall finishing and texturing.<\/p>\n

It is our mission to renew all interior and exterior finished surfaces in a timely and as needed manner to enhance the visual environment of Palomar College depending on the availability of funds.\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0Due to the variety of materials and surfaces used and the transitory nature of our faculty, staff and students it is nearly impossible to predict when any given area or surface will need renewal chronologically.<\/p>\n

Graffiti<\/strong>:<\/u><\/p>\n Graffiti is an eyesore.\u00a0 It is costly, destructive, and is against the law (California Penal Code 594.2<\/a>).\u00a0 Palomar College is committed to a prompt response to graffiti that occurs on campus and requests that all departments and individuals on campus promptly notify Campus Police<\/a> at extension 2289 or 760\/891-7273.\u00a0 Once a report has been issued, Campus Police will deliver the report to the Facilities Office who will dispatch our Maintenance Painters and or Skilled Maintenance Technicians\/Parking Lots to remove the graffiti.<\/p>\n Nature of Work\/Painting<\/strong><\/span><\/u>:<\/p>\n Painters apply paint, stain, varnish, and other finishes to buildings and other structures.\u00a0 They select the right paint or finish for the surface to be covered, taking into account durability, ease of handling, and method of application.\u00a0 Painters first prepare the surfaces to be coated, so that the paint will adhere properly.\u00a0 This may require removing the old coat of paint by sanding, wire brushing, burning, or water and abrasive blasting.\u00a0 Painters may also fill nail holes and cracks, sandpaper rough spots, and wash walls and trim to remove dirt, grease, and dust.\u00a0 On new surfaces, they apply a primer to sealer to prepare the surface for the top coat.\u00a0 Painters may also mix paints and match colors, relying on knowledge of paint composition and color harmony.<\/p>\n There are several ways to apply paint and similar coverings.\u00a0 Therefore, painters must be able to choose the appropriate paint applicator for each job, depending on the surface to be covered, the characteristics of the finish, and other factors.\u00a0 Some jobs need only a good bristle brush with a soft, tapered edge; others require a dip or fountain pressure roller; still, others are best done using a paint sprayer.\u00a0 Many jobs need several types of applicators.\u00a0 In fact, painters may use an assortment of brushes, edger\u2019s, and rollers for a single job.\u00a0 The right tools speed the painter\u2019s work and produce the most attractive finish.<\/p>\n Painters offer work in a sealed self-contained suit, wear protective safety glasses and a dust mask.<\/p>\n \n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" Our Maintenance Painters are responsible for regular and specialty requested jobs or projects involving painting, dry wall finishing and texturing.
