2) When is the Great ShakeOut earthquake drill at Palomar College? Which buildings will be involved?
The Great ShakeOut will be occurring at Palomar College on October 20, 2022 at 10:20 a.m. and 6:20 p.m.
All students, faculty and staff at the San Marcos campus, Escondido Education Center, Rancho Bernardo Education Center and Fallbrook Education Center will be expected to participate.
3) Why is the Great ShakeOut earthquake drill important for Palomar College?
Everyone, everywhere, should know how to protect themselves during earthquakes, whether they live, work, or travel to an area where earthquakes are common. Palomar College is located in Southern California in an area particularly susceptible to earthquake activity. It is important to be prepared for an earthquakes as a campus community and as individuals living in San Diego County in order to prepare yourself to survive and recover quickly in the case of an earthquake..
4) How long does the Great ShakeOut last? What does it consist of?
The entire drill will last no longer than a few minutes.
The Great ShakeOut will consist of a 60-second message broadcasted through the Palomar College Emergency Notification System. The message will inform the participants to follow the proper steps in order to ensure a safe and prompt protection strategy.
5) Is participation mandatory at Palomar College? Do I have to register?
Participation in the Great California ShakeOut is mandatory for any person present on the Palomar College main campus or at any of the Education Centers during the time of the drill on October 20, 2022 at 10:20 a.m. and 6:20 p.m.

7) Who organizes Great ShakeOut drills?
The Environmental Health and Safety Department (EH&S) at Palomar College is the organizer for the Great ShakeOut drill at Palomar College. This drill is in coordination with the Southern California Earthquake Center with support from the Federal Emergency Management Agency, United States Geological Survey, and National Science Foundation.
