{"id":468,"date":"2013-05-28T11:12:28","date_gmt":"2013-05-28T18:12:28","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.palomar.edu\/pages\/multicultural\/?page_id=468"},"modified":"2021-03-22T22:44:07","modified_gmt":"2021-03-23T05:44:07","slug":"468-2","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.palomar.edu\/ethnicstudies\/468-2\/","title":{"rendered":"Dr. Martin Japtok"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Part-Time Faculty, Ethnic Studies<br \/>\n<a href=\"mailto:mjaptok@palomar.edu\">mjaptok@palomar.edu<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.palomar.edu\/ethnicstudies\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/179\/2013\/05\/Martin.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-442\" src=\"https:\/\/www.palomar.edu\/ethnicstudies\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/179\/2013\/05\/Martin-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"Martin\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.palomar.edu\/ethnicstudies\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/179\/2013\/05\/Martin-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.palomar.edu\/ethnicstudies\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/179\/2013\/05\/Martin.jpg 348w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">Biography:<\/span><br \/>\nMartin Japtok received his M.A. degree in American Studies (with minors in British Studies and Philosophy) from the Johannes Gutenberg University in Mainz, Germany, and his Ph.D. in English (African American literature) from the University of California, Davis.\u00a0 He is the author of <em>Growing Up Ethnic: Nationalism and the Bildungsroman in African American and Jewish American Fiction<\/em>, editor of <em>Postcolonial Perspectives on Women Writers from Africa, the Caribbean, and the U.S.<\/em>, and co-editor (with Rafiki Jenkins) of <em>Authentic Blackness\/\u201dReal\u201d Blackness: Essays on the Meaning of Blackness in Literature and Culture<\/em> and has published essays in scholarly\u00a0journals, books, and encyclopedias.\u00a0 He was Professor of the Year at West Virginia State University from 2000-2003 and is also co-author\u00a0of the\u00a08th edition of <em>Inside Writing<\/em> and the 6th edition of <em>The Writer&#8217;s Response: A Reading-Based Approach to Writing.
