{"id":28,"date":"2016-04-17T23:55:39","date_gmt":"2016-04-18T07:55:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.palomar.edu\/esl\/?page_id=28"},"modified":"2025-10-28T13:04:03","modified_gmt":"2025-10-28T21:04:03","slug":"citizenship","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.palomar.edu\/esl\/citizenship\/","title":{"rendered":"Citizenship"},"content":{"rendered":"<h4><strong>Fall 2025 Schedule:<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>N CTZN 900 (Citizenship)<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p><strong>Online Class<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: small\">Citizenship classes provide students with a knowledge of United States history, government and institutions, and the use of community services and agencies. They are designed to assist eligible individuals to become United States citizens. The class prepares students to take the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.palomar.edu\/esl\/citizenship-2\/\">Citizenship Examination<\/a>.\u00a0Students will practice listening and speaking skills in English that are necessary to pass the oral test with an Immigration and Naturalization Service official. Students will learn how to fill out the Citizenship Application (INS N 400.) Students will focus on literacy skills that are necessary to pass the written test.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: small\">To register for a Citizenship class, students will need to fill out a Community Education form for non-credit (N CTZN 900). This can be done at the ESL Office on campus in Room H-116. For information about the Citizenship Program, contact the ESL Department (760) 744-1150, ext. 2272.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: small\">The class is free, although students will have to pay a health fee (usually between $22 &#8211; $27).<\/span><\/p>\n<p>English skills are helpful for students taking this course, but this course is open to students of all English abilities.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.palomar.edu\/esl\/_notes\/staff1\/SLOs\/400%20SLOs.pdf\"><strong>Citizenship Student Learning Outcome<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>CITIZENSHIP EXAMINATION<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-size: small\">By taking the Citizenship class, students will be able to:<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<ol type=\"1\">\n<li><span style=\"font-size: small\">complete practice items from one or more of the following examinations: CASAS, ETS, 1\/3 INS Test;<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: small\">complete INS N-400 Form;<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: small\">answer both written and oral questions about the history and government of the United States; and<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: small\">understand and answer interview questions.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-size: small\">Some of the topics that are covered in the class include the following:<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: small\">Past Events in the Early History of the United States<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: small\">Structure of the Federal Government<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: small\">Privileges and Obligations of United States Citizens<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: small\">Requirements for Citizenship<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Fall 2025 Schedule: N CTZN 900 (Citizenship) Online Class Citizenship classes provide students with a knowledge of United States history, government and institutions, and the use of community services and&hellip;
