The EME department offers our EME 105, 106\/106L, and 175\/175L classes during the Spring, Summer, and Fall semesters. Each course will have a fast track option available as well. Please make sure that you have applied to become a student and register for your courses on your given registration date, as the classes do tend to fill quickly. <\/td>Pre-Requisite<\/th>Course Descriptions <\/th>Certifications Earned<\/th>\n<\/tr>\n<\/thead>\n
EME 105 - EMT Prep
\n3 units<\/td>		None<\/td>Includes the study and application of emergency medical skills and procedures,
\nincluding basic anatomy and physiology, terminology, and prevention of disease
\ntransmission. CPR certification from the American Heart Association.<\/td>		CPR and Certificate of Completion<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
EME 106 - EMT Basic (Lecture)
\n6 units<\/td>		Current CPR card for Health Care Providers, EME 105, and must be age 18 by the
\nfirst day of class<\/td>		The study of EMT theory and knowledge required for identification and
\ntreatment of pre-hospital emergencies. The course prepares the student for
\nNational Registry, California, and San Diego County EMT certification.<\/td>		Skills testing is verified and student is listed on the National Registry website which allows him\/her to test to become certified EMT. Will also earn Bleeding Control Certificate and Course Completion Certificate as proof of EMT training.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
EME 106L - EMT Basic (Lab)
\n1.5 units<\/td>		Current CPR card for Health Care Providers, EME 105, and must be age 18 by the
\nfirst day of class<\/td>		Application of skills required for treatment of pre-hospital emergencies. This
\ncourse prepares the student for National Registry, California and San Diego
\nCounty EMT certification. Student is required to complete 24 hours supervised
\nambulance observations.<\/td>		same as above<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
EME 175 Paramedic Prep (Lecture)
\n2 units<\/td>		Current EMT with a minimum of 3 months full time pre-hospital
\nexperience<\/td>		An overview of paramedic-level assessment skills combined with appropriate
\nparamedic-level anatomy, physiology, and treatment relevant to the disease
\nprocesses studied.<\/td>		Student earns 24 hours of continuing education credits as an EMT.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
EME 175L - Paramedic Prep (Lab)
\n1 unit<\/td>		Current EMT with a minimum of 3 months full time pre-hospital
\nexperience<\/td>		Performance of EMT skills combined with appropriate paramedic-level anatomy,
\nphysiology and treatment relevant to the disease processes studied<\/td>		same as above<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Paramedic Academy - 10-month program<\/td>Admission into Paramedic program<\/td>This program consists of EME: 206, 206L, 207, 207L, 208, 208L, 209, 209L, 210, 211, 212, 215, 220<\/td>The Paramedic Program prepares the student in all elements of prehospital
\nadvanced life support. Upon successful completion of the program, the student
\nis eligible to take the State of California EMT-P certification exam, which is the
\nNational Registry Emergency Medical Technician-Paramedic Exam.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Paramedic Refresher Course
\n4 units<\/td>		Only open to students who have been accepted into the Paramedic Program
\nas a challenge or who were unsuccessful in EME 208\/208L, EME 209\/209L, EME
\n210 or EME 215 and require remediation. Student who were unsuccessful must
\ninterview and be accepted into EME 220.<\/td>		Provides students who were unsuccessful in 207\/207L, EME 210 and\/or EME
\n215 or individuals who are challenging the paramedic program an opportunity
