Learning disabilities can affect students in reading, writing, oral language, and mathematics.<\/p>\n<p>If you suspect you have learning disabilities, or have prior documentation, please come to our office to discuss the next appropriate step for you.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>How to receive services:<\/strong><\/h2>\n<h3>Students with prior testing<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Bring current Learning Disabilities (LD) testing records to DRC<\/li>\n<li>Make an appointment to see a DRC Counselor or Learning Disability Specialist to discuss records and eligibility<\/li>\n<li>If you meet the California Community College Learning Disabilities Criteria, you will be eligible to receive academic accommodations<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Students without testing<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Complete the LD referral screening form (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.palomar.edu\/drc\/drc-forms\/learning-disability-assessment-self-referral-form\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">LD Assessment Self Referral Form<\/a>). LD testing is completed in the Fall and Spring semesters. If you submit a LD self-referral form over the summer, please note you will not receive an email response until the fall semester.<\/li>\n<li>If recommended, complete the LD evaluation process<\/li>\n<li>After the assessment, a complete review of the test results will be provided<\/li>\n<li>If you meet the California Community College Learning Disabilities Criteria, you will be eligible to receive academic accommodations<\/li>\n<li><strong><em>NOTE:\u00a0 <\/em><\/strong><em>The assessment that is done\u00a0in the community colleges qualifies a student for academic accommodations and other services related to\u00a0LD;\u00a0it\u00a0is not a diagnosis\u00a0of LD.<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>For additional information, please contact the Disability Resource Center at 760-744-1150, Ext. 2375 or Leigh Ann Van Dyke, Learning Disability Specialist at <a href=\"mailto:lvandyke@palomar.edu\">lvandyke@palomar.edu<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A person with learning disabilities has an average to above-average intelligence, yet has significant differences in how they remember, understand, and express information.
