Education Planning Checklist for New Students
Are you a new student who needs an education plan? Click on the steps below to learn how to get one.
Now through August
Once you have applied and completed the online orientation, complete the Education Planning Intake Form. You will be sent an email from studenthelp@palomar.edu with a link to the form. You will be asked questions to help the counselor create an education plan for you. Review the online catalog to view course information by class codes (ex: ENG 100).

Now through August
Go to your Student Center in MyPalomar and find your education plan under the My Education Plan link 5-7 business days after completing the Education Planning Intake Form. Here is a video on how to find your education plan.

After receiving your education plan, check your Palomar email for a link to schedule an appointment with a counselor to review your plan. Appointments can be scheduled online and can be in-person or via Zoom.

Complete the actions below to prepare for your counseling appointment:

- View the Pre-Advising Orientation before your counseling appointment to get familiar with all the information related to education planning. Enter your first name, last name, Student ID, and Palomar email to register your completion. This will take approximately 20 minutes.
- Explore our Palomar Pathways if you are undecided.
- View the Education Plan Examples.
- Write down a list of questions for the counselor.
Review the list below to prepare for your counseling appointment:
- You will receive an email confirmation and reminder of your counseling appointment via your Palomar email from noreply@palomar.edu after scheduling your appointment.
- For Zoom appointments, you will need to use an electronic device, preferably a laptop or desktop. Camera not required.
- Have your Palomar email open during the first 15 minutes of your appointment. You will receive an email from your counselor if there are connectivity issues. Watch this video to learn how to access your student email.

May 8 - August 20
Attend a Class Registration Assistance Session to get help registering for class. If you still need help selecting courses, then complete the Education Planning Intake Form. (Step 1 on this list). Class registration began on May 8 for Summer and Fall 2023 classes. For more information, see the Steps to Enroll website. If you are a Promise student, see the Promise Registration website.
