LOC (4/28/16)

The following discussion took place at the April 28, 2016 meeting of the Learning Outcomes Council:

  1. Strategic Plan Goal 1

Michelle Barton asked for feedback from the Council on the proposed Goal 1 (Teaching and Learning) of the Strategic Plan. LOC discussed possible objectives related to teaching and learning that would be assigned to LOC. The suggestions will be incorporated into the plan and taken to SPC.

  1. Create SLOAC model for interdisciplinary programs and certificates, e.g. Women’s Studies

Marty Furch shared some examples of programs that have courses from various disciplines and provided a proposal for how the faculty who “own” a particular program can collaborate with faculty from other disciplines to inform them of SLO assessment for their Program Review.

  1. Discuss SLO assessment data in program review and planning and actions

Marty Furch presented strategies on how faculty can use assessment information and data in the program review process.

  • MS (Sourbeer/Stockert): Approval to revise the meeting dates for the Accreditation Steering Committee.  Motion carried

INFORMATION/DISCUSSION:

  • Discussion on the College’s Mission, Vision, and Values.  There was consensus that there was no need to revise them at this time
  • Discussion on the potential plans for the South Center
  • Update on the ACCJC Annual Report

  • Report that ACCJC called a meeting to hear public comments on the Accreditation Task Force’s findings and then discuss it in closed session
  • Report that FASPC began identifying topics to submit for SPPF
  • Report that IPC decided to use the same PRP forms as last year
  • Report that SSPC discussed communication with member’s constituencies and ideas to increase enrollment and recruit/train students
  • Report that CCE signed off on the change to benefit provider
  • Report that the Faculty Senate approved the faculty hiring procedures draft #13
  • The Political Economy Days will be on October 14 and 15

The following action and discussion took place at the September 15, 2015 meeting of the Strategic Planning Council:

INFORMATION/DISCUSSION:

  • The work of the Web Revamp Task Force was summarized
  • Review of a proposed procedure on having media placed on the new Streaming Media Server.  The procedure will be sent to the Policies and Procedures Committee
  • Discussion of a proposed website, Comet Information Exchange (CIE), a one-stop shop where faculty and staff are connected with the summaries of Palomar’s planning council meetings and other Palomar committee meetings
  • Review of the 20156-2016 SPC Timeline
  • Discussion and agreement to form an enrollment task force.  The proposal will come to SPC at its next meeting as a first reading
  • Review of the Strategic Plan 2016 Year 3 goals and objectives.  The finalized goals and objectives will come to SPC at the next meeting as a first reading
  • Discussion of SPPF funds FY 2015-2016, and consensus to concentrate on the enrollment objectives within the Strategic Plan 2016 Year 3.  This item will come to SPC at the next meeting as a first reading
  • Report that IPC reviewed and approved the faculty hiring list
  • Discussion of the FON number for the next fiscal year
  • Announcement that during the Political Economy Days on October 14-15, Ian Ruskin will be giving a one-man show on labor titled From Wharf Rats to Lords of the Docks on October 14 at 2:00 p.m. in the Howard Brubeck Theatre
  • Announcement that the Foundation netted $250,000 at its GALA event

The following action and discussion took place at the May 5, 2015 meeting of the Strategic Planning Council:

ACTION/SECOND READING:

  • MS (Titus/Sourbeer):  Approval of Staffing Master Plan Year 5 Update.  The motion carried.
  • MS (Sourbeer/Sebring):  Approval of Institution-Set Targets for IEPI.  The motion carried.

INFORMATION/DISCUSSION:

  • The Compressed Calendar Model was discussed
  • A STEM Title V Grant in partnership with CSUSM was discussed
  • The Strategic Plan 2016 – End of Year Progress Report on Year Two was reviewed
  • Michelle Barton led members in a formative evaluation of the program review and planning process
  • Strategic Plan 2016 Year 3 Goals and Objectives were discussed and agreed upon.  A draft Strategic Plan 2016 Year 3 Goals and Objectives will be reviewed at the August SPC meeting.
  • Berta Cuaron reported that the District submitted factual corrections to the draft report from the Accreditation Site-Visit Team
  • Kendyl Magnuson provided an enrollment update
