The following discussion took place at the February 26, 2016 meeting of the Student Success and Equity Council:

MINUTES

  • Approval of Minutes for January 22, 2016:

MSC – (Sourbeer/Anfinson): The minutes for January 22, 2016 were approved and accepted into the record with an abstention from Anel Gonzalez.

INFORMATION/DISCUSSION:

  • Kristyn Lewko and Tracie Sayre gave a presentation on the electronic degree audit.  Testing is underway for this online, automated system.
  • Wendy Nelson gave a report on an equity session she attended during the ASCCC – 2016 Accreditation Institute conference held February 19-20, 2016.
  • Olga Diaz reported on the following:
    • Upcoming conference opportunities
    • SSSP and Student Equity budget reports for 2014-15
    • Faculty advising
    • Region X Equity Week activities on March 7 – 11, 2016
  • Cindy Anfinson presented a rubric for the SSEC funding requests.
  • The Retention Workgroup requested the Manager of Orientation and Follow-up Services have a seat on this Council.
  • The SSEC Workgroups met and reported the following:
    •  Student Pathways – Michelle Barton reported that they are discussing guided student career pathways.  She requested the Council begin reading the book: Redesigning America’s Community Colleges – A Clearer Path to Student Success and discuss their thoughts on it at the Council meetings.  Olga will purchase a supply of the book to distribute to the Council.
    •  Access & Outreach – Dr. Jack Kahn reported they will be researching strategies our campus community has implemented to support Veteran students and will begin to identify an institutional mission for this student group.
    •  Retention – Nancy Moreno reported they are planning workshops for the Week of Welcome (WOW), which will be held August 15-18, 2016.

Student Success and Equity Council

The following discussion took place at the November 13, 2015 meeting of the Student Success and Equity Council:

INFORMATION/DISCUSSION:

  • Gary Sosa and Lee Chen presented data to support the ESL Recognition Night funding request; there was consensus among the Council to support this request.
  • Olga Diaz presented the draft Student Equity Plan Update which is due to the Chancellor’s Office on December 18, 2015.  There was a request to add EOPS and the Career Center to the “Support Successful Programs” in the Targeted Initiatives section under Other College – or District-wide Initiatives Affecting Several Indicators.
  • Olga Diaz gave an update on the Instructional Faculty Advising noting:
    • Duplicate meetings have been added to accommodate schedules
    • Feedback has been collected and summarized
    • Presentations have been made with resources sited
  • Cynthia Anfinson discussed the funding rubrics from City College of San Francisco and Pierce College.  Cynthia encouraged the SSEC and all of our planning councils to use this rubric.

OTHER BUSINESS:

  • Olga Diaz reported that Palomar College initiated the process of contracting with M2C3 (Minority Male Community College Collaborative) which focuses on educating and training men of color.

Student Success and Equity Council

The following action and discussion took place at the October 23, 2015 meeting of the Student Success and Equity Council:

ACTION/SECOND READING:

  • Dean Shayla Sivert presented the Noncredit SSSP Plan for the 2015-16 fiscal year

INFORMATION/DISCUSSION:

  • Dean Shayla Sivert gave a report to support the One-on-One Appointment Tutoring funding request; there was consensus among the Council to support this request
  • Dean Jack Kahn presented information to support adding the AB540/Dream Act workgroup/committee to SSEC; there was consensus among the Council to accept this request
  • Olga Diaz gave an update on the Instructional Faculty Advising, noting duplicate meetings have been added to accommodate schedules
  • There was consensus among the Council to add December 11, 2015 as an additional SSEC meeting date
  • Workgroups met and reported out via email

Student Success and Equity Council

The following action and discussion took place at the October 9, 2015 meeting of the Student Success and Equity Council:

ACTION/FIRST READING:

  • Dean Shayla Sivert presented the Noncredit SSSP Plan for 2015-16 as a First Reading

INFORMATION/DISCUSSION:

  • Dean Shayla Sivert, Mireya Gutierrez-Aguero and Fabiola Hernandez presented data to support the Family Institute funding request; there was consensus among the Council to support this request
  • Dean Shayla Sivert reviewed the One-on-One Appointment Tutoring funding request
  • Dean Jack Kahn, Jessica Munoz, Esq., MFS, Carmelino Cruz and Martha Martinez presented information to support adding the AB540/Dream Act workgroup/committee to SSEC
  • Michael Large and Olga Diaz presented the Student Equity Plan and data which is due to the Chancellor’s Office on December 18, 2015
  • Olga Diaz gave an update on the Instructional Faculty Advising initial meetings, noting she has requested feedback from faculty, staff and students to create a clear model

Student Success and Equity Council

The following discussion took place at the September 11, 2015 meeting of the Student Success and Equity Council:

INFORMATION/DISCUSSION:

  • Introduction of Olga Diaz, Director of Student Success and Student Equity and Nancy Moreno, Manager of Orientation and Follow-Up Services
  • Reminder that second Fridays are designated for the Council to meet as a group and fourth Fridays are designated for the Workgroups to meet
  • Report that the Student Equity Plan is due on December 18, 2015 and the Student Success and Support Program plan is due on October 30, 2015
  • Report and discussion of DRC students in need of additional assistance
  • Presentation on Faculty Advising
  • Presentation on SSSP/SEP Allowable and Prohibited Expenditures
