The following discussion took place at the April 28, 2016 meeting of the Learning Outcomes Council:

  1. Strategic Plan Goal 1

Michelle Barton asked for feedback from the Council on the proposed Goal 1 (Teaching and Learning) of the Strategic Plan. LOC discussed possible objectives related to teaching and learning that would be assigned to LOC. The suggestions will be incorporated into the plan and taken to SPC.

  1. Create SLOAC model for interdisciplinary programs and certificates, e.g. Women’s Studies

Marty Furch shared some examples of programs that have courses from various disciplines and provided a proposal for how the faculty who “own” a particular program can collaborate with faculty from other disciplines to inform them of SLO assessment for their Program Review.

  1. Discuss SLO assessment data in program review and planning and actions

Marty Furch presented strategies on how faculty can use assessment information and data in the program review process.

The following discussion took place at the March 10, 2016 meeting of the Learning Outcomes Council:

Finalize Guidelines for SLO Facilitators

  • The Council reviewed recommendations for the appointment of an SLO facilitator by a department chair.

Finalize Recommended Language for the PFF Contract re SLO Facilitators

  • Wendy Nelson reviewed the Council’s suggestions for recommended contract language regarding SLO facilitators’ stipend amounts.

Annual ACCJC Report

  • The Council examined the ACCJC annual report template and questions regarding SLOs.
  • Wendy Nelson stated that the College needs to assess another ILO and suggested that we assess Knowledge of Human Cultures and the Physical and Natural World next year through the Program Review and PRP process.

Intercultural Recommendations

  • Wendy Nelson recommended that the Council create a small summer workgroup to review Intercultural Competency & Knowledge assessment recommendations and plan activities for Fall 2016/Spring 2017.

The following discussion took place at the January 28, 2016 meeting of the Learning Outcomes Council:

Quantitative and Digital Literacy Update

  • John Harland presented a plan for creating and organizing  Quantitative Literacy Supplements to address areas of weakness in student learning and assist students with quantitative literacy in discipline-specific supplementary instruction.
  • The College will be assessing Digital Literacy in Spring 2016. Classes will be randomly selected and faculty will be asked to have their students participate in a digital literacy assessment.

Written Communication Recommendations

  • Wendy Nelson reviewed the recommendations of the Written Communication assessment workgroup.
  • Marty Furch encouraged council members to consider what action the council would like to take in response to the assessment results of Written Communication.

Facilitator Report Feedback

  • Marty Furch reported on the data collected from SLO facilitators using the planning tools and Summary SLO Planning Report.
