The Spring Semester begins on Monday, 1\/26. <\/strong><br><br>If you are interested in a class that is full, please add yourself to the waitlist.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial\">Email<\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Arial\"> Gina Wilson, the Department Chair, at <a href=\"mailto:gwilson2@palomar.edu\">gwilson2@palomar.edu<\/a><\/span><font face=\"Arial\">  if you need assistance with transferring, planning your schedule, or any other information regarding the department. <\/font><\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\" \/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif\"><strong>About the Child Development and Education Department<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"font-size:18px\"><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif\">The Child Development and Education Department at Palomar College is a comprehensive program within the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.palomar.edu\/sbsdivision\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Social and Behavioral Sciences Division<\/a>. The department offers six AS degrees and eight certificates in Child Development. The Child Development Department prepares students for employment as infant\/toddler teachers, preschool teachers, daycare providers, directors, elementary school teachers, and other child development careers, such as trainers and consultants, that focus on the children.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"font-size:18px\"><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif\">The Child Development and Education Department is a highly successful program at Palomar College. The department works closely with the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.palomar.edu\/ecelabschool\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Early Childhood Education Lab School<\/a> on campus, as well as many other childcare sites in the community, by placing students to observe and\/or participate with young children.&nbsp; The department oversees the operations of the Early Childhood Education Lab Schools at the Palomar College San Marcos and Escondido sites. The department also directs the Child Development Training Consortium and the California Early Childhood Mentor Program.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"font-size:18px\"><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif\">All of the programs and opportunities offered by the Child Development Department benefit students at Palomar College, as well as community members, through education, experience, financial assistance, and high-quality child care.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Mission Statement<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"margin-top:0;margin-right:0;margin-bottom:0;margin-left:0;font-size:16px\">The Child Development &amp; Education Department at Palomar College is dedicated to providing a wide variety of courses related to child development and early childhood education, focusing on children ages birth to eight. We are committed to teaching our students evidence-based, developmentally appropriate practices enabling them to provide respectful, child-directed care and education to the children they work with. We are focused on instilling respect for children and their developmental needs and stages, while expecting best practices in early care and education. We are a department with an eclectic array of expertise and backgrounds, all joining together in our universal belief in the importance of respectful, responsive, and reciprocal relationships to understanding and supporting the development of young children.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Anti-Racism and Solidarity Statement<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"font-size:16px\">The Child Development and Education Department at Palomar College supports our BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, People of Color) students and colleagues and stands in solidarity with contemporary movements in raising awareness of widespread systemic racism and discrimination, as well as the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.palomar.edu\/deiaa\/\">Call to Action<\/a> for Palomar College. As faculty and staff in the CHDV Department, we commit to continuing to work on addressing the needs of our students and community by maintaining individual and collective work towards the goal of anti-racism. We prioritize the values of combating systemic racism and preventing marginalization and oppression while reflecting and taking action on working towards a more just future for all children.
