{"id":48,"date":"2017-01-13T03:26:37","date_gmt":"2017-01-13T03:26:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.palomar.edu\/calm\/?page_id=48"},"modified":"2018-01-25T11:19:54","modified_gmt":"2018-01-25T19:19:54","slug":"calm-cohort","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.palomar.edu\/calm\/calm-cohort\/","title":{"rendered":"CALM Cohort"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1><a href=\"https:\/\/drive.google.com\/drive\/folders\/0B4wOeQO1KcI_Mm5PeGZVdjRFdE0?usp=sharing\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">::: The 2017 CALM Cohort :::<\/a><\/h1>\n<h1>Twenty more faculty members will have the opportunity to join the second CALM cohort in 2018!<\/h1>\n<p>You have the opportunity to earn a <strong>$750<\/strong> for making a plan to eliminate textbook costs for a class you currently teach or one you are planning to teach. The stipends are available through a grant from the Palomar College Foundation.<\/p>\n<p>To earn the stipend you must complete the following goals:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Goal #1:<\/strong> Attend at least one of the CALM workshops listed in the Textbook Affordability series (There are several options including: three lunch and learn workshops, two coffee talk workshops, an online webinar, and a mini-conference&#8211;check for details and register through 3PD).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Goal #2:<\/strong> Attend both CALM cohort meetings on the following dates:<\/p>\n<p>CALM cohort meeting #1 April 27th 11-2pm<br \/>\nCALM cohort meeting #2 May 11th 11-2pm<\/p>\n<p><strong>Goal #3:<\/strong> Complete the CALM worksheet which will be posted on the CALM website to assist other faculty in making decisions about Affordable Learning Materials.<\/p>\n<p>The worksheet includes:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Research Affordable Learning Material resources specific to your discipline.<\/li>\n<li>Identify at least three possible Affordable Learning Materials that you could use in your course to reduce the textbook costs and support your student learning outcomes.<\/li>\n<li>Explain the Pros and Cons of each option<\/li>\n<li>Explain the accessibility of each option<\/li>\n<li>Calculate the predicted cost savings to your students for each option<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>You will also be called upon to serve as a resource for faculty in the future who want to investigate zero-cost textbook alternatives.<\/p>\n<p>Please note: If you have already adopted a zero-cost textbook alternative in your course, that course is not eligible for this program and will not earn a stipend.\u00a0 And if you have already been a member of a CALM Cohort, you are not eligible to apply.<\/p>\n<p>Application are due by 5pm on March 10, 2017.\u00a0 To submit your application go to: <b><a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/forms\/d\/e\/1FAIpQLSdOHTAcY7Nyz3t0tD_frrvEcOMand_H1-DshIPSW4logngJ5w\/viewform\">tinyurl.com\/CALMproposal <\/a>\u00a0 <\/b><\/p>\n<p>The Textbook Affordability Taskforce will review applications and announce their decisions on March 15, 2017.<\/p>\n<p>The stipend will be paid after successful completion of all elements of all three goals.<\/p>\n<p>Please consider discussing your plans with your Department Chair before submitting your proposal or after your acceptance to the cohort.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>::: The 2017 CALM Cohort ::: Twenty more faculty members will have the opportunity to join the second CALM cohort in 2018!
