Concert Hour

Make Plans to Attend Our Free Concert Hour – THURSDAYS THIS FALL AND SPRING.

Concert Hour is a music enrichment series presented on the campus of Palomar College for our students, staff, and community by the Palomar College Performing Arts Department. Enjoy a range of exciting artists and musicians in the newly renovated Performance Lab D-10. The program is presented weekly during the Fall and Spring Semesters at 1:00 p.m. and ends at approximately 2:00 p.m. Admission and

Naomi Alter and Randy Brinton

Harpist Naomi Alter received her Bachelor of Music degree in harp at Oberlin Conservatory of Music under the tutelage of Alice Chalifoux. She has studied with Jeanne Chalifoux at the Salzedo Harp Colony in Maine, and at Tanglewood Music Festival in Massachusetts with Lucile
Lawrence.

She has taught harp at Louisiana State University and performed with the Toledo, Baton Rouge, Poway, La Jolla, Palomar, Miracosta, North Coast, and Grossmont Symphonies, as well as numerous chamber, duo, choral, and church ensembles. She has been a recent harp concerto soloist with the Poway Symphony Orchestra, the New Mexico Performing Arts Society, the Los Angeles Song of the Angels Flute Orchestra, and the Crown City Symphony in Pasadena. Since 1987, Naomi has performed at thousands of weddings and special events, concertizing and teaching harp in the San Diego area. She currently serves on the board of the American Harp Society – San Diego Chapter, whose mission includes increasing exposure of the San Diego community to our wonderful instrument and fostering excellence in its instruction to young aspiring harpists.  More information and sample music videos can be found at www.harpsandiego.com

Randall Brinton began violin in his public schools’ music programs. He attended San Diego State University where he earned a Bachelor of Music in Violin Performance. While a student there, he began playing with the San Diego Symphony. During sabbatical leave he received a Masters in Orchestral Conducting from California State University, Long Beach. During his career with the San Diego Symphony he has played all the major symphonic and operatic literature with a variety of fine Music Directors and visiting conductors. He served for five years as Principal Second Violin with the Fresno Philharmonic. Besides symphonic music, Randy has performed in most every other genre including opera, ballet, chamber music, and recording work. He has soloed with orchestra in the concertos of Bach, Tchaikovsky, Prokofiev, and Vivaldi. In addition to classical music, he is comfortable in rock, pop, and jazz settings. Currently, he is concertmaster for both Coronado Philharmonia Orchestra and New City Sinfonia. He was recently soloist with New City Sinfonia in Mozart’s Violin Concerto No. 4 and guest concertmaster for the North Coast Symphony Orchestra.

As conductor, Randy has served as Music Director of the Poway Community Symphony and was a two-time guest conductor of San Diego Unified School District’s Honor Orchestra. He was a staff conductor of Civic Youth Orchestra, and has recently conducted for Tifereth Israel.
