Interstellar communication and extraterrestrial life.<\/p>\n<p>CSU; UC &#8211; Credit Limitations<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>ASTRONOMY 105L<br \/>\nPrinciples of Astronomy Laboratory<\/h3>\n<p>Three hours laboratory (1)<br \/>\nPrerequisite: Completion of, or concurrent enrollment in ASTR 100, 120, 205, or 206<\/p>\n<p>Exploration of the techniques used in astronomy to determine the physical properties of stars and galaxies. The physical nature of light and the optical principles of a telescope are also explored. Measurements of planetary and stellar phenomena are used to investigate the astronomical methods of determining the size, composition and age of the universe.<\/p>\n<p>CSU; UC<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>ASTRONOMY 120<br \/>\nPlanets, Moons, and Comets<\/h3>\n<p>Three hours lecture (3)<\/p>\n<p>The astronomy and geology of the solar system, observations, dynamics,\u00a0 including theories of formation and evolution. Comparative survey of the atmospheres, surface features and interiors of planets and satellites. Minor objects, such as comets and asteroids, will be included.<\/p>\n<p>This course is dually listed as GEOL 120.<\/p>\n<p>CSU; UC &#8211; Credit Limitations<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>ASTRONOMY 197<br \/>\nThe Universe: Contemporary Topics in the Space Sciences<\/h3>\n<p>Units awarded in topics courses are dependent upon the number of hours required of the student. Any combination of lecture, laboratory, or lecture-laboratory may be scheduled by the department. Refer to Class Schedule. (1-3)<\/p>\n<p>Selected topics in astronomy and space sciences, emphasizing current research and discoveries.
