Typographic development is included in this part of the program.<\/p>\n<p>Both Graphic Design and Illustration programs incorporate digital media in their courses of study. Software applications that are used include Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop and AfterEffects, Corel Painter, Autodesk Maya, and Pixologic ZBrush. In other words, learn how to steal from the best\u2026<\/p>\n<p><strong>Concept Sketching<br \/>\n<\/strong><strong>\u00a0Why?<br \/>\n<\/strong>To learn how to get ideas down on paper fast. Ideas don\u2019t hang around\u2013you need to be able to communicate them quickly, especially to your (future) clients.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Design and Composition<br \/>\n<\/strong><strong>\u00a0Why?<br \/>\n<\/strong>To learn the basics of composition: how to put things together and make them look good.<br \/>\nTo grasp proportion, balance, color, line, and other elements of design.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Color\/Light and Theory<br \/>\n<\/strong><strong>Why?<br \/>\n<\/strong>To begin to understand the complexities of color, and how you can use color to help communicate your message.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Graphic Design I<br \/>\n<\/strong><strong>Why?<br \/>\n<\/strong>To put the concepts you learned in design and composition (as well as color) to practical use.<br \/>\nTo learn communication and problem solving\u2013practical concepts that will give you design (and job) skills. AND to learn hand skills\u2013how to communicate quickly and effectively without using a computer\u2026oh my god, without a computer.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Digital Concepts<br \/>\n<\/strong><strong>Why?<br \/>\n<\/strong>To learn the software professionals use daily in Graphic Design. Specifically, Illustrator and Photoshop.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Graphic Design II<\/strong><strong><br \/>\nWhy?<br \/>\n<\/strong>Even more practical work in design. Magazine layout, packaging, logos, this time using the computer.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Typography Design<br \/>\n<\/strong><strong>Why?<br \/>\n<\/strong>Because typography is the graphic designers swiss army knife. And something a lot of designers don\u2019t understand or use well. You will when you take this class.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Motion Design<br \/>\n<\/strong><strong>Why?<br \/>\n<\/strong>Lots of graphic designers end up working in time-based mediums (animation, motion graphics, stuff like that). Motion Design teaches you how time-based work is done.<\/p>\n<p><strong>3D Modeling<br \/>\n<\/strong><strong>Why?<br \/>\n<\/strong>3D modeling is becoming something that designers need to know\u2013at least the basics\u2013since it\u2019s use a lot in contemporary design work. This class gets you started in the digital 3rd dimension.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0I already took (fill in the blank) in High School\u2026why do I need to take it again?<br \/>\n<\/strong>When you take a college art class, you\u2019re in class 6 hours a week, and you\u2019re expected to do another 6 hours a week out of class. You are learning MUCH more that you ever thought possible about the subject you\u2019re taking. That\u2019s why you need to take it again. High school gets you started. College keeps you going on the path to expertise.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0I want to learn more stuff\u2026<br \/>\n<\/strong>There are many other classes you can take to add to your knowledge or to refine your area of specialization.
