It moves beyond the highlight reels to explore the raw reality of cultural navigation: the moments of isolation, the strategic negotiations, and the stamina required to stay at the table when the doors are closed. Description:<\/strong> ‘Umeke warmly invites your students, faculty, and staff to our upcoming events M\u0101lama Pono: Culture, Connection and Celebration <\/strong> a free community program taking place May 9\u201310, 2026 across Oceanside.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Rooted in the Hawaiian values of m\u0101lama<\/em> (to care for, protect, and nurture) and pono<\/em> (to live with balance, integrity, and responsibility), this two-day program brings together cultural learning, ocean connection, and community. The weekend will feature a variety of experiences including ocean-based activities, cultural demonstrations, and an evening program of poetry, movement, and heritage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We would be honored to welcome members of your campus community to join us in exploring how cultural knowledge and shared experiences can deepen our understanding of care for ourselves, for one another, and for the places we call home. All events are free and open to the public, though some activities require advance registration due to limited capacity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
