{"id":28,"date":"2014-08-26T10:02:48","date_gmt":"2014-08-26T17:02:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.palomar.edu\/aods\/?page_id=28"},"modified":"2020-06-23T17:22:24","modified_gmt":"2020-06-24T00:22:24","slug":"educational-planning","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.palomar.edu\/aods\/educational-planning\/","title":{"rendered":"Educational Planning"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center\"><strong>Getting Started<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The first step is usually the hardest!\u00a0 Anyone who wishes to attend Palomar College must submit a completed application for admission.\u00a0 Palomar College has over 30,000 students and most transactions are done through the Internet using eServices, &#8220;My Palomar,&#8221; an electronic portal for students and staff.\u00a0 Through eServices, &#8220;My Palomar,&#8221; you will be able to apply to Palomar, add and drop classes, purchase parking permits, apply for financial aid, pay fees, and view your grades.<\/p>\n<p>Your first step is to complete an online application to Palomar College.<\/p>\n<p>Please consult the current Palomar College catalog for all the admission criteria.<\/p>\n<p>After you have submitted a Palomar College application you will be issued your Palomar ID Number and password.<\/p>\n<p><strong>AS or Certificate of Achievement Assessment:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>If your goal is to earn an Associate&#8217;s degree or Certificate of Achievement your next steps are to take the English, math and reading assessment test, followed by an appointment with a counselor to develop an educational plan.\u00a0 Please refer to the information below about how to do these important steps.<\/p>\n<p>Assessment testing is required of all beginning students.\u00a0 English, math and reading Assessment<\/p>\n<p>After completing an application and getting your Palomar College ID, you should schedule a time for the English, math and reading assessment, advisement and orientation program, You may schedule your appointment by sending an e-mail to assessment@palomar.edu<\/p>\n<p><strong>Q:<\/strong> What is Assessment?<\/p>\n<p><strong>A:<\/strong> Assessment is the process the College uses to evaluate your skills in areas such as:<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Reading<br \/>\n\u2022 Writing<br \/>\n\u2022 Math<br \/>\n\u2022 English as a Second Language (ESL)<\/p>\n<p>Assessment (the placement process includes multiple measures), advisement, and orientation are given several times throughout the year for the convenience of new, continuing, returning, and transfer students.<\/p>\n<p>Assessment gives students knowledge of present levels of skills in math, English, and reading. Assessment, along with advisement and orientation, using computerized testing, takes approximately 3 hours, and includes receiving the results.<\/p>\n<p>Advisement provides you with you immediate test results and gives direction in choosing the appropriate courses.<\/p>\n<p>Orientation: Provides information on key topic areas such as the class schedule, college catalog, vocational and transfer programs and the registration process.<\/p>\n<p><strong>QUESTIONS:<\/strong> Please contact the Assessment Center, Student Union, Room 1, Phone: (760) 744-1150 ext. 2383 or 2476.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Scheduling a Counseling Appointment:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>After you have applied and completed your assessment testing, your next step is to schedule an appointment to see a counselor for complete educational planning.\u00a0 Counselors are not assigned and it is your responsibility to find a counselor that you would like to work with.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Q:<\/strong> How do I schedule an appointment to see a Palomar College counselor?<\/p>\n<p><strong>A:<\/strong> You can schedule an appointment with a counselor by calling the Counseling Reception Desk at (760) 891-7511.
