CAREER TECHNICAL & EXTENDED EDUCATION DIVISION MEETING

September 30, 2009

2:00 – 3:00 p.m.

 

 

ATTENDEES:         

Steve Bertram, Rita Campo Griggs, Shanon Dreyer, Nancy Galli, Paul Kelly, Tom Medel, Jamie Moss, Wilma Owens, Teri Safranek, Brett VanWey, and Debi Workman

 

Wilma explained the reorganization of Extended Education; Jamie Moss and Tom Medel are the new Interim Directors.

 

IPC REPORT:

Debi Workman reported that at the last IPC meeting the Instructional Master Plan was discussed.  She also stated that Instructional Review will be coming out again and that it is very important to tie budgeting into planning.

 

SUMMER SCHEDULE:

Wilma announced that the materials for the Summer 2010 schedule will be distributed on Monday, October 5.  She reminded everyone that they can only offer classes that fall within the 6 and 8 week categories, no 4W1 will be approved.  Wilma also stated that there shouldn’t be any growth and also to remove anything from the summer schedule that isn’t direly needed or anticipated to have low enrollments.

 

NEW HUMAN RESOURCE SERVICES HIRING PRACTICES:

Wilma gave background information related to the new H.R. hiring practices.  She stated that the Governing Board was advised by an attorney that Board members are liable for hiring practices.  The Board, therefore, developed a new policy effective July 1, 2009, whereas all temporary student and part-time employees are required to go through the live scan process.  Wilma stated that we cannot have anyone working until their fingerprint report comes back cleared to Human Resource Services; there are no exceptions.  The live scan process can take up to 30 days.

 

SLOAs:

Wilma stated that our division has a total of 513 courses.  At this point, we have completed learning outcomes for 225 courses.  She stated that the college goal is to have 10% of learning outcomes with assessments completed by March 2010.  Marty Furch will provide training for departments.  Wilma stated that she will provide any resources which might be needed to assist with this task.

 

L/L Courses:

Wilma reminded everyone that the deadline to submit curriculum to change L/L courses to Lecture and Laboratory is October 2010.  This is a Title 5 requirement and all classes must show Lecture and Laboratory hours separately in the catalog starting Fall 2011.

 

OVERLAP FORMS:  

Wilma reminded everyone that the maximum time that a student can miss from a class is 20 minutes where there is an overlapping class issue.

  

TRAVEL FUNDS:

Wilma announced that the division has some travel funds available and if anyone would like to utilize them, they should submit a request for travel form through their chair or director.

 

TEACHING AND LEARNING CENTER:

Wilma urged everyone to visit the new Teaching and Learning Center at the Escondido Center. 

 

MEET THE PROFESSOR:

Rita announced the upcoming Meet the Professor meetings for Fall 2009 and distributed information regarding dates.
