Veterans' Services

General instructions and information for veterans interested in attending Palomar College.

“I am in the military (or Veteran) and interested in coming to Palomar College, what do I do next?”

  1. If you have not already done so, you need to
    • Apply to the Veterans Administration for your educational benefits.
    • Apply online at: www.gibill.va.gov and
    • Select the "Apply Now" link


  2. While you are there, take the time to review information about your benefits.


  3. Complete the Palomar College online application at
    • www.palomar.edu.
    • Click on the “Apply for Admissions” link.
    • Make sure to write down your new Student ID Number.


  4. Activate your Palomar student email account on your eServices Welcome page. Please make a habit of checking your email account regularly for important updates and information about your benefits. The Veterans Service Office will only send email communications to your Palomar student email account.  

  5. Veterans Education benefits will not count against you in qualifying for Federal Financial Aid, so you need to complete the “Free Application for Federal Student Aid” (FAFSA)
    • Apply online at www.fafsa.ed.gov
    • OR from the Palomar web at www.palomar.edu.
      • Click on the “Financial Aid and Scholarships” link
      • Select the “FAFSA on the Web” tab.


  6. Visit the Palomar Veterans Web
    • Go to www.palomar.edu,
    • Use the “Quick Links” drop down menu
    • Select “Veterans Services”
    • Click on Go
    • On the Veterans web page review the “Need to Know” tab
    • Click on the “Transcripts” tab and follow the instructions for getting a copy of your service education transcript.


  7. Have official transcripts from any college you have EVER attended sent directly to the Palomar College Records Office.

  8. Print or order a copy of your service training transcript. Find directions for the individual branches of service at http://www.palomar.edu/veterans/transcripts.htm.

  9. Once you have completed all of the above, then (AND ONLY THEN), call us at 760-744-1150, ext 2173 to schedule and appointment with a Veterans Advisor.


  10. If your scheduled appointment is well before the start of the semester, you may want to wait until you have met with the Advisor before you register for classes. If your scheduled appointment is close to, or after the start of the semester, go ahead and register for classes paying close attention that you enroll in classes that the catalog clearly shows are a part of your planned program of study!. Classes that are not a part of your program of study will not be payable with your G.I Bill benefits.

  11. When you come for the appointment, please bring the eligibility letter from the VA, your service training transcript and a “Member Copy 4” of your DD214.
