VETERANS G.I. BILLS – CHAPTER BREAK DOWN
Chapter

30 Montgomery Or New G.I. Bill
Category I – first entered active duty 7/1/85 or later, and paid $ into program.
Category II – 34/30 conversion - see Chapter 34 below, no contribution required.
Category IIIA – on active duty 9-1-90 involuntarily separated after 2-2-91. Must elect 30 while active, pay 1,200
Category IIIB/C – Voluntary separated, B-on or after 10-23-92 DOD collects $1,200
C-between 12-5-91 & 10-22-92, VA collects $1,200

VA Vocational Rehabilitation
Must have a compensable service connected disability (20% or more) which causes a demonstrable employment handicap. ( 10% may qualify also - refer to VA pamphlet 28-82-1 )

VEAP – Veterans Educational Assistance Program
Enlisted between 1/1/77 and 6/30/85 & paid in $ into program.
34
Old GI Bill, or Vietnam G.I. Bill
Enlisted between 1955 – December 31, 1976
Ended 12/31/89
Conversion old bill to new 34/30, must have remaining entitlement as of 12-31-89.
Served on active duty continuously from 10-19-84 until at least 12/30/88. May
still qualify if discharged before 12/30/85, with service connected disability, hardship or convenience of government

Dependents and Survivors’ Educational Assistance
Spouse and/or child or surviving spouse and /or child of a veteran with permanent and total service connected disability; whose death was service connected; or who died of any cause while rated P& T SCD.

Selective Reserves
Enlisted, extended enlistment or re-enlisted for a 6 year period after 6/30/85.
Obtains NOBE from reserve unit showing date of eligibility.

Reserve Educational Assistance Program
Benefits are determined by DOD. Generally, benefits are awarded to reservists serving on active duty on or after 9/11/01 for at least 90 days under a contingency operation.
