What is
Articulation?
Articulation
is a process which links a high school and college course in order
to help students avoid experiencing a delay in or duplication of
learning. It allows high school students to receive college credit
and/or advanced placement for articulated classes taken in high
school. By encouraging enrollment in both
high school and post-secondary education, articulation provides
an incentive for students to continue their education, reduces costs
to the student and minimizes
needless duplication of coursework.
How Teachers Request to Articulate Courses
A Tech Prep program requires a formal and program-specific articulation
agreement between the high school and Palomar. The articulation
agreement is a commitment for the high school and the community
college to jointly develop and implement Tech Prep curricula and
instruction.
Any instructor, counselor, administrator, industry representative,
or student at the high school or college can initiate dialogue regarding
articulation of programs by following these steps:
High
School Faculty Request Course For Articulation
- A
“Request for Articulation” form can be downloaded
from the Forms pages.
- The Tech
Prep Coordinator can send the “Request
for Articulation” form to the interested high school.
- Requesting
high school/faculty returns completed “Request
for Articulation” form along
with a completed Articulation Packet
to the Tech Prep Coordinator.
The completed Articulation
Packet includes:
- High
School Course Outline
- Competency
List
- Name
of Textbook, Software, and Equipment
- Sample or Final or Tests for the class
- Course
Outline of Corresponding Palomar College
Class to be Articulated
Evaluation
of Course Equivalency
- The Tech
Prep Coordinator will forward a copy of all completed Articulation
Packets to the Department Chair and Instructor.
- The Tech
Prep Coordinator will send a letter requesting the Department
Chair and Instructor review the “Request
for Articulation” and Articulation Packet for
potential articulation.
- Upon approval
of the articulation, signatures from the Department Chair
and the Instructor are required.
- Articulation
Packet and signature page will be returned to the Tech Prep
Coordinator.
- Tech Prep
Office Develops Articulation Agreement
- The Tech
Prep Office will develop the Articulation Agreement using the
articulation template established
by Palomar
College.
- The new
articulation agreement will be sent to the appropriate division
for final approval signatures.
- The original
agreement will be filed in the Tech Prep office
and a copy of the complete articulation will be sent to:

2. Tech Prep Officer
3. Participating Hign School
4. Articulation
