PALOMAR COLLEGE SPEECH TEAM POLICY

1. In going to a speech tournament, you represent Palomar College from the time you leave the campus until the time you return home. You are to conduct yourself at the tournament in a manner consistent with the classroom.

2. Alcohol: No alcohol is to be consumed by any student while traveling with the speech team. If underage drinking is discovered, that individual will be sent home immediately and barred from further competition. Anyone found to be intoxicated at a tournament will be sent home immediately and barred from further competition. Anyone purchasing alcohol for consumption by a minor may be prosecuted.

3. Use of illegal drugs will not be tolerated and may result in prosecution.

4. All students are required to abide by tournament rules concerning timeliness and curfews. Any fines levied on the College as the result of a competitor’s actions will be the responsibility of the competitor, subject to appeal. The College will take all legal steps to obtain payment including the withholding of grades and/or transcripts.

5. Do not badmouth your competitors or team mates. This is a learning activity and we are to support one another, including individuals from other schools.

6. Be supportive of those who advance at a tournament, and be sensitive to those who do not.

7. lf you are allotted money for food, you must account for the money by the end of the tournament.

I have read, and agree to be bound by, the Palomar College Speech Team Policy.
