The Read 110 Power Reading website will be your "classroom" for this online course. Take a few minutes to explore the website to familiarize yourself with the layout of the "classroom".

Navigation: Top Row

Directly below the logo on every webpage in the course, you will notice four links that will:

home : return you to the course homepage

instructor : open an e-mail message address to me  (assuming that your web browser is configured to respond to "mailto:" links. If it is not, my e-mail address is cthomson@palomar.edu You can use your regular e-mail software to address e-mail messages to me.

Blackboard : open a new web browser window with the college online course management system. This tool allows easy access to course content, private chat rooms, and a web discussion board. You will need to login using your student ID number as both username and password. (If you have used this system in the past and changed your password, the password will still be whatever you changed it to.) On the left of the resulting page is a link to "Personal Information." Please check this area to be sure your email address is accurate; if not, please update asap and whenever you change your email address. On the right of the same page is the link to the Power Reading class site.

reference links : open a new browser window that contains every hypertext link contained in the course modules. This webpage will be useful when you want to return to a link your explored earlier in the course and do not want to burrow down into the modules to find the link. You may want to print a copy of this page for future reference.

Navigation: Second Row

The second row of website navigation links will take you to the eight course modules. As modules become available, you will notice that the top navigation row remains the same, but that the second row changes to reflect the module organization scheme.

In course modules the second row displays links that will:

introduction : open a browser window with the module introduction. You will have two options to read the introduction. You can read the module introduction on the screen by clicking at the Proceed to... links at the bottom of each screen. This option will lead you through the module one screen at a time. Or, if you prefer, you can print the entire introduction for off-screen reading or future reference. The choice is yours...

calendar / due dates : opens the webpage with the calendar of learning opportunities, activities, and due dates for the  module activities, lab assignments, quizzes, etc.

lab assignments : opens the webpage with notes and instructions for the reading lab assignments for the weeks indicated. Be sure to check this each week before beginning your lab work; modifications to the lab assignments handout will often be made to suit your particular objectives and will be posted here.

links : open a webpage that contains all of the links for the module. This differs from the top row reference links in that it only has links for the current module.
