Activity 1.2 - Choose an Appropriate Mode

Suppose that you are to read the materials described below for the purposes given. Consider the pointers listed in Module 1.2, then select your approach. Practice in setting your approach is important, since you should set a reading goal for each selection you read in your actual studies and pleasure reading. This practice exercise is just to alert you to the considerations which should control your reading rates in everyday life.

Possible approaches:

  • Scanning

  • Skimming (Preview and Overview)

  • Rapid Reading

  • Personal, pleasure reading

  • Analytical, critical reading

  • Study reading
