Tina Cook

Tina Cook

I was born and raised in California and have resided in Redding for 29 years. My husband Jim and I have two children; Nathan, age 20 and Melissa, age 19 in August. Jim is an Air Tanker Pilot, Nathan has his private pilot license, and is working on his commercial pilot license while working at the airport, Melissa works in retail, while pursuing a degree in Business Administration and I am an Educational Interpreter and student. I had a home Day Care/Preschool for 15 years, while obtaining my A.A. and Child Development Teachers’ Permit. I graduated Shasta College in 2000 and continue to further my education. I was first exposed to Sign Language through our Deaf ministry at my church about 6 years ago. I was intrigued with the language, started trying to communicate with the Deaf members and later enrolled in ASL/Deaf Culture classes.  I have been working as an interpreter for about 4 years and obtained an Interpreter certificate through ACCI in September 2003. My goal is to become certified through RID within the next 2 years and earn a BA soon after. My long-term goal is to open a Deaf Center that serves as a preschool, after-school tutoring service and recreation/social club that would be run by a Deaf majority. I enjoy flying, swimming, fishing and boating with my family. For relaxation I shop and sunbathe.
