Improvisation for Theatre and Comedy

Beginning Acting I: Fundamentals
Three hours lecture (3)
In a workshop environment, the student will ]earn the basic tools and
terminology of acting. The student will apply this knowledge and experience to

Acting II: Scene Study
Three hours lecture (3)
Prerequisite:
TA 115
Designed to improve the actor's skills for performing scenes and
monologues with truth and power. Actors will improve their ability to pursue the
character's needs and objectives, to be vulnerable to their partners' words and
actions and to create with a range of emotion. Actors in this class will
continue to develop their vocal and physical technique. CSU; UC

Playwriting
Three hours lecture (3)
Study
and analysis of form, style, and structure in dramatic literature.
Students will write at least two one-act plays for critical analysis. Selected
student work will be given studio production. CSU

Beginning Stage Direction
Three hours lecture (3)
Training in the principles, procedures, and methods of stage direction.
Students will serve as assistant directors on college productions and will also
direct scenes for acting classes and studio productions. CSU; UC

This
course emphasizes the application of fundamental acting skills to specific
styles. The actors will learn how to accomplish the demands of different styles
from Shakespeare to Theatre of the Absurd. May be taken two times, CSU

Several approaches to the task of creating a character will be offered. Physical, vocal, psychological, and emotional aspects of character will be developed in depth. May be taken two times. CSU
