The following workshops are arranged by YOU to meet YOUR  needs.  You arrange the date and time at your convenience!

An innovative approach to faculty development!  Free for faculty. No prior experience necessary!  Perfect for your busy schedule!  Whether you are new to teaching or a seasoned veteran, there is something here for you.  This program offers a strong curriculum on college teaching.  The learning modules include:

Getting started:                                                       

  • Go to the 4faculty web page www.4faculty.org.

  • Create an account by clicking the “Set Up an Account” link on the home page.
  • Fill in all the required information.
  • Select a User ID and Password.

Select the modules that best fits your needs:

  • Follow the D.R.E.A.M. pathway for learning which is explained in the text.

  • Take the assessment at the end of each module under Measure to receive your credit for Professional Development.

Place this activity on your PD contract:

Place workshop # 42 in the Code field, provide an approximate date in the Date field, place the corresponding hours in the Hrs. field and list the learning module you selected in the Activity Description field.

Academic Technology offers special topics training on a To-Be-Arranged basis.  Contact the facilitator indicated below to arrange times to provide one-on-one or small group training in these topics.  Credit for PD hours should be arranged with the Professional Development Office (ext. 2250).

Learn how to use the free Microsoft "PowerPoint add-in" to produce rich media materials that can be saved to disk, CD or streamed from the web. Linking offline content from Blackboard is included.

Using Hot Potatoes to Create Interactive Quizzes for the Web

Create and upload to the web multiple choice, fill-in-the-blank, crossword puzzle, or matching interactive quizzes.


Bridging the Gap Between High School and College

Are you interested in building professional relations to promote your classes, develop articulations, recruit students  in your subject area but don’t know where to start?  We have the activity for you!   “Bridging the Gap,” will connect you with a high school teacher in your subject area and facilitate an interactive rapport by visiting each other’s classroom, giving a presentation to each other’s students, or writing up an articulation agreement. 

This activity will have a two-hour orientation meeting and overview of the proposed program. Call Rita Campo Griggs at ext. 3047 to arrange this workshop activity.

Exploring Ethical Issues - Campus Explorations

Right to Die? Right to Live? Ethics in Politics? Environmental Issues? Science and Philosophy? War? Enron? Free Speech? Human Rights? Ethics anyone? Martha Stewart? Cheating? Plagiarism? Same Sex Marriage? Medical Ethics? Fair Play? Goth Ethics?

 

These weekly seminars offer an enriched exploration of ethics and related issues to those who attend LC 197, # 74993, on Wednesdays, 2 - 3 pm, ES-19.

 

One PD hour can be earned for each session attended.

Palomar Mentor Program for Students

Code # 57

Palomar College is committed to student success and helping students identify and reach their educational goals.  In an effort to strengthen students’ connection to the campus, the Palomar Mentor Program has been created.  Participants will have the opportunity to work with three to five students.  Support may come in the forms of individual meetings, referrals to support programs or other out-of-class interventions designed to improve student success.  The programs will strengthen student/faculty relationships outside the classroom and provide faculty the opportunity to develop an academic support system.

CCCSAT Self-Directed Activities

Palomar College houses the California Community College Satellite Network and offers a variety of faculty resources including CCC System-wide Professional Development Training and CCC Resource Television Programs.

Use CCCSAT’s satellite downlink to make your own viewing schedule from the Affiliates Contribution Newtork (ACN) program guides.  Add your selections to your Professional Development contract and mark your calendar to view outstanding professional development and distance education programming from your personal computer.

To Access Programming and Schedules:

Channel 80:     Visit www.cccsat.org Click on the Programs drop-down menu and select a channel to view. Channel 80 programming is color highlighted by categories of programming interests.  Watch the webcast at the scheduled time by clicking “webcast” in the schedule.

Channel 90:     Visit www.cccsat.org Click on the Programs drop-down menu and select a channel to view. Channel 90 video content is color highlighted to indicate similar programming or a series.  CH90 programs are LIVE satellite down-linked events at the scheduled time of day.  To view CH90 programming, please contact the ETV offices at ext. 2607 to reserve a room and date.
