Palomar College Television, in conjunction with the California Community Colleges Satellite Network, operates two Avid non-linear editing (NLE) suites giving students the opportunity and the experience working on equipment used in post production world-wide. The first of these is the Avid Media Composer 9000XL, an all-in-one system designed for off-line, film and online editing. The other system, the Avid Symphony, is a high-end online and finishing editor with system management support for web and videostreaming distribution. Both systems feature:
Let’s say that the Media Composer comes loaded with features and options that can make any dream a reality. However, the Symphony comes with a few special features when you need that something extra. These are:
When you see the Symphony for the first time it can be very intimidating; it’s been compared to sitting in the cockpit of a jumbo jet. But rest assured, it’s as easy to operate as any other NLE. This tool allows you to complete and finish any project and convert it to any required format. So, get ready to go for one great, wild ride!
Also in the Avid Symphony suite is the Fairlight Dream Satellite Digital Audio Workstation with the Binnacle editor. This is one of the premier audio editors of post-production studios across the world. Students get to learn how to edit all elements of audio such as dialog, music and effects to the picture they created using the Symphony. Everything can be done using the Fairlight, from editing to mixing, for the best sound possible for any video project.
Some features include:
It’s just one big tape recorder for us “die hard” fans that like the feel and sound of tape, but in the digital world.
