Palomar
College’s Educational Television (PCTV) has been producing college telecourses
since 1975. The college’s television studio is a state-of-the-art facility
with a wide array of professional broadcast equipment. Television programming
is broadcast locally on Cox and Adelphia cable systems, and distributed
across the state by the California Community College Satellite Network,
CCCSAT, which is housed at Palomar.

PCTV offers four to six production internships each semester. You will receive “hands on” training and experience on camera, audio, VTR, lighting, and/or remote production. Unlike at many other internships, at PCTV students have the opportunity to produce/direct independent projects such as promos, training videos, and more.
We are looking for interns with a variety of skill levels. For students with more advanced skills, paid internships may be available.

CCCSAT and PCTV offer the opportunity to get hands on experience editing projects on the Avid Media Composer and Symphony Non-Linear Editors. This is a part-time, unpaid position editing PCTV and CCCSAT promos, telecourses, and programs. The position requires basic knowledge of Avid editing systems, and the ability to meet all deadlines.
Must have basic editing and production knowledge, and have organizational skills. Will learn how to use waveform and vector-scope monitors, how to patch audio and video, digitize video clips, lay-back projects to different media, create EDL’s, and back-up projects. There will be some editing involved using both the Avid Media Composer and Symphony. The position requires some basic knowledge of editing systems, and the ability to meet all deadlines.
A creative person is needed to work with the producer, director, and editor on all video and printed projects for PCTV and CCCSAT. The position requires knowledge of Adobe Photoshop & After Effects and the ability to meet all deadlines. Basic production skills and some understanding of waveform and vector-scope monitors are a plus.
A creative person is needed to help write scripts for half hour news programs, information slates for the CCCSAT and PCTV channels, and other projects as needed. Should have the basic knowledge of how to write in TV news and script format, and be able to meet all deadlines.
Job skills and qualifications required: Experience working with Dreamweaver/FrontPage/HTML for the creation and maintenance of live websites. Attention to detail and the ability to work under tight deadlines are mandatory.

PCTV and CCCSAT maintain and operate a state-of-the-art broadcast master control center on the Palomar College campus. The Center operates 24/7 using videotape playback/recorders and a professional broadcast video server and automation system.
The Broadcast Operations Center is looking for three interns - 2 Broadcast Assistants and 1 Programming Assistant to assist in the daily operations activities. Training is provided.
You will learn videotape formats, video signal specifications, video and audio signal discrimination, ability to interpret video waveform and vectorscope display, operate television broadcast video player/recorders, audio board, steerable satellite downlink receivers, and Leitch broadcast video server and Harris broadcast automation system.
The Broadcast Assistant works closely with the Operations staff to perform video duplication and format transfers; operate satellite receivers and record feeds according to schedules; record videos to broadcast video server; assist in maintaining videotape library and database; and operate broadcast master control automation computers, switcher, video server, videotape player/recorders, and satellite receivers.
A qualified intern should have the ability to multi-task, possess effective audio-visual discrimination and perception, communicate effectively, understand and carry out oral and written instructions, perform accurate and detailed work, and work well with others.
The Television Programming Assistant works closely with programming staff, receives and inventories videotapes, inputs data into database, assists with daily broadcast schedules, corresponds regularly with staff regarding programming availability and status reports, and participates in bi-weekly meetings.
A qualified intern should be computer literate, possess ability to perform accurate and detailed work, and be proficient in use of Microsoft Excel, Word, and Internet Explorer.
