Palomar College’s Educational Television Department receives Telly Award

SAN MARCOS (April 14, 2005) – Palomar College’s Educational Television (ETV) department has good news of its own to broadcast, with the announcement that the station was awarded the 26th Annual Telly Bronze Award in the educational category. The ETV department production team headed by Bill Wisneski, along with Associate Professor in Counseling Tom Ventimiglia, received the award for the video series "Quest for the Empowered Self."

According to information on the Telly Awards website, "Founded in 1978…the Telly Awards annually showcase the best work of the most respected advertising agencies, production companies, television stations, cable operators, and corporate video departments in the world. The Telly Awards is a widely known and highly respected national and international competition and receives over 10,000 entries annually from all 50 states and many foreign countries."

Palomar College offers Ventimiglia’s award winning video series as a counseling class (COUN 120) in fall and spring semesters. The series is also available by license to other higher educational institutions and for sale to businesses and residents in the community. Wisneski said, "We worked very hard on this production and it's rewarding to receive national recognition for our efforts. Beyond the awards though, Tom's course is greatly improving the lives of his students and thousands of individuals who watch the broadcast at home."

Describing the video series, Ventimiglia said, "This course allows students to realize that their life answers are within themselves, not just outside of them. It’s gratifying to be involved with a program that has such a positive impact on all those that it touches." Ventimiglia has also authored the textbook "Quest for the Empowered Self: Life Skills to Help You Live, Thrive, and Produce Like Never Before" to compliment the video series. Wisneski said that Palomar College's ETV department has received a total of four Bronze Telly Awards.
