Educational Television Garners Awards
SAN MARCOS (June 14th, 2004) - It has been another award winning year for Palomar College's Educational Television. The department recently received first and third place awards in the Professional Video category at the 2004 San Diego County Fair.
First place was awarded to the New Student Orientation Video, which was produced in collaboration with the Counseling department at Palomar College. Starring in the video were counselors John Dise, Jo-Anne Lesser, Tim Hernandez and Assessment Coordinator Diane McAllister. Professor/Counselor Maria Miller served as Associate Producer on the project. The video provides an introduction to student skills assessment, advisement, and an overview of the support services offered by the college for new students. The program was transferred to DVDs which are viewed by students on computers in the Assessment/Orientation Center.
Third place went to the Contemporary Legal Issues telecourse module Same Sex Marriages, which was produced in partnership with Professor Angelo Corpora and the Legal Studies department. Contemporary Legal Issues examines important topics of the day with a panel of experts from the legal arena.
Another Legal Issues program, USA Patriot Act, was also recently honored with the Communicator Award of Distinction. This award is presented to projects that exceed industry standards in quality and excellence. The Communicator Awards is an international awards program founded by communications professionals to honor excellence in the communication field.
Over the last five years, Palomar College's Educational Television productions have garnered more than thirty national and international awards.
