Palomar College Television production receives four Emmy nominations

SAN MARCOS (May 11, 2007) – Palomar College has received four Emmy nominations for the documentary From War to Peace and Beyond, produced by the college’s educational television department (PCTV). The 2007 Emmy nominations were announced recently at the House of Blues in San Diego at an event for the 33rd Annual Pacific Southwest Emmy Awards.

The Palomar documentary examines San Marcos resident Le Ly Hayslip’s painful but ultimately triumphant journey from a tragic childhood in war-torn Vietnam to her new life as an American citizen and humanitarian. It is the story of one woman’s quest to heal the wounds of war and build a bridge between the East and West. The program illuminates her journey from war, to peace, and beyond.

Le Ly was the focus of Oliver Stone's film Heaven & Earth, and is an award winning author. She commissioned PCTV to produce the documentary because of the department’s reputation for creating high quality programs and her desire to work with an educational institution.

PCTV Producer Bill Wisneski was nominated for directing, writing and producing the documentary, and California Community College Satellite Network Production Coordinator Chris Brown was nominated for editing the project.

“Being nominated is a huge achievement for us,” Wisneski said. “The Emmy standard is set so high and we are in competition with the large stations and production studios that have multi-million dollar budgets. It’s the first time a program produced by Palomar College Television staff has ever been nominated. To receive four nominations is truly amazing. It could not have happened without the tremendous work of all of the staff and students who worked on this project.”

Wisneski said that DVD copies and streaming video links of the documentary will be provided to Palomar faculty who may want to use it in their classes. From War to Peace and Beyond will air on the PCTV Cox 16 and Time Warner 67 channels on Wednesday, May 16 at 9 p.m.
The Emmy awards will be presented during the 33rd Annual Pacific Southwest Emmy Awards ceremony on Saturday, June 16 the La Costa Resort and Spa in Carlsbad.
