News Releases:
SAN MARCOS (July 2, 2007) – A documentary produced by Palomar College’s educational television department (PCTV) received three Emmy Awards at the 33rd Annual Pacific Southwest Emmy Awards event, held June 16 at the La Costa Resort and Spa in Carlsbad.
The documentary From War to Peace and Beyond, examines San Marcos resident Le Ly Hayslip’s painful but ultimately triumphant journey from a tragic childhood in war-torn Vietnam to her new life as an American citizen and humanitarian. It is the story of one woman’s quest to heal the wounds of war and build a bridge between the East and West. The program illuminates her journey from war, to peace, and beyond.
Le Ly was the focus of Oliver Stone's film Heaven & Earth, and is an award winning author. She commissioned PCTV to produce the documentary because of the department’s reputation for creating high quality programs and her desire to work with an educational institution.
PCTV Producer Bill Wisneski won Emmys in the categories Documentary - 30 Minutes and Writing: Program. Chris Brown, Production Coordinator for 3C Media Solutions, received the Emmy for Editing: Pre-produced: Program.
Wisneski said, “It’s very rare for people in academia, especially at a community college, to be nominated in the professional categories. To receive three Emmys is amazing! It’s a testament to the remarkable life that Le Ly has lived. These awards also could not have happened without the dedicated staff and student interns at Palomar. Everyone worked tirelessly on this project and it’s nice when the hard work pays off.”
“I was really glad to be asked to serve as editor for this wonderful project,” Brown said. “Receiving the Emmy was a great honor, and the honor is shared with all the people who worked so hard to tell Le Ly’s story. It is gratifying to know that through the documentary more people will learn about the important work Le Ly is doing. Her humanitarian efforts continue to help so many people.”
From War to Peace and Beyond will air on the PCTV Cox 16 and Time Warner 67 channels on Saturday, July 7 at 6:30 pm.
