Online courses, also often referred to as Web courses, are usually defined as courses which are offered over the Internet. Basic technology needs are a computer, a Web browser and an Internet connection. Program and course providers will identify the specific technology needs of a specific course (e.g., some courses may require the use of a certain browser version or type of computer).
At Palomar College we use a Course Management System or CMS called "Blackboard" to design our online courses and provide course outlines and materials for Video Classes, Video Classes Online and even several of our traditional classroom courses.
Typically an online class will meet for the same length of time as an on-campus class. If there are any out-of-the-ordinary meeting times they should be listed in the class schedule. Many online classes do have an orientation meeting at the start of the semester. Check the online class schedule for details of if, when, and where the class orientations take place. Some of Palomar's online classes do require your presence on-campus for testing, others never require your physical presence at all. You will have to contact your instructor for details specific to your class.
