Palomar College Television

PCTV History

PCTV has been in operation for more than thirty-five years, setting a tradition of excellence for video production and distance learning at Palomar College. PCTV is a vital resource for Palomar faculty, students, staff, and the North County community. The department has won numerous national awards and is regarded as a leader in the distance education arena.

The Palomar PCTV cable channel operates seven days a week year round. Today, Palomar College has the only post-secondary facility in San Diego that provides original programming and credit instruction. The department delivers over 4,200 hours of quality educational cable programming annually.

PCTV Mission - "Successful Student Learning Through Technology"

Specifically through:

Accessibility and Enhancement: We will increase student access, reduce barriers and completion time, and enhance academic performance by advancing state-of-the-art technology, scholarly and innovative academic programming and scheduling.

Partnerships: We will expand upon important campus and extramural alliances in order to be able to offer a broad perspective of academic and technical learning opportunities.

Community Outreach: We will increase community outreach, awareness and recognition of Palomar College and the scope and global effectiveness of the Distance Learning program through an innovative marketing plan.

Evaluation and Improvement: We will constantly evaluate, research, and revise process adopted to meet this mission, and work toward professional staff development, and program and facility expansion.

Integration: We will intensify our efforts to enhance our state-of-the-art program to complement and supplement Palomar College's own strategies for achieving outcome goals.

Distance learning courses, like traditional courses require textbooks, assignments, tests and tuition. The primary distinction is that distance learning courses provide convenient access to a college education by eliminating much of the hassle associated with traditional college courses -- fighting traffic, looking for a place to park, finding a baby-sitter for the kids, adjusting your schedule to attend lectures, etc.
