Prime Time Palomar TV News Show begins 2nd season

SAN MARCOS (March 26,2004) Prime Time Palomar, a weekly Palomar College student produced half-hour TV news program, will launch it's second season on April 3, 2004. In cooperation with the Palomar E.T.V. department, the show will be broadcast each Saturday at 5 pm on Cox ch 16 and Adelphia ch 67. It is estimated the show will reach over 250,000 homes in North County.

The emphasis this season is News...College Students Can Use. The first show will cover the following stories:

1. Palomar, in search for a new President.

2. Tuition Increase, it's impact on students.

3. Palomar Study Abroad Program

4. Parking Tickets. How to fight one. How to avoid getting one. What happens if you don't pay.

5. Palomar Profile: Dale Wallenius VP Foundation, author of a new book on Volunteerism.

6. Health Services: What does the Palomar Health Services program provide to students.

7. One Students Opinion: The new ban on smoking with-in 20 feet of a building.

8. Tech Talk: I Tunes, a legal alternative

9. Planning a romantic dinner.

10. Entertainment: Latest Palomar Performing Arts events plus community local bands.

11. What's Up; What, no Led Zeppelin? This week will feature the clock tower, how it got there and who selects the music.

12. Sports: All the latest sports news

13. Myth or Fact? This week we uncover the truth of the 10 minute rule: If the instructor doesn't show up for the first 10 minutes of class, do the students get to leave? Myth or Fact?

Each week Palomar RTV 240 students will bring north county the latest news and events concerning Palomar College students.

The 18 students of the RTV 240 class learn a variety of roles in the TV News business. They are producers, anchors, reporters, writers, photojournalist, directors, audio technicians, floor directors etc. Many students spend as many 20-30 hours or more per week on producing each episode. News Director Chris Fisher for example works as many as 30 hours week on Prime Time Palomar while carrying 18 units. This is just one example of the dedication each member of the team possess.
