Julann Lodge

Julann Lodge graduated with honors from UC Santa Cruz in 1990 with a degree in history.  She also holds a secondary teaching credential in English and world history (Point Loma Nazarene College, 1994), a Bilingual Cross-Cultural, Language and Academic Development Credential (2001), and a master’s degree in education with an emphasis in bilingual models of teaching literacy and reading (National University, 2004). 

Julann has been teaching a wide variety of classes at the high-school level for the last 17 years.  At Rancho Buena Vista (1994-1999), she taught and developed honors-level world cultures and world literature, and European history classes.  She also created and taught an after-school intervention program for at-risk teens teaching history of Mexico and Chicano Studies.  She was the advisor for the Asian-American Student Union and the Latin Dance Club. 

At Alta Vista High School (2001-present), Julann is the coordinator for the English as a Second Language Program.  She has taught all levels of ESL, literature and writing, world history, U.S. history, history of México, art, and creative writing. 

Other teaching experiences include teaching on the Pala Indian Reservation (1991), in a Waldorf elementary school (1995), and abroad for a year in Guanajuato, México (1999-2000).  

Outside of school, Julann enjoys running creative writing workshops for women, dancing, and traveling.  She has participated in Palomar’s World Drum and Dance Ensemble for the last 6 years and has studied/performed Middle Eastern, Brazilian, Afro-Cuban and Latin social dance.  She has traveled throughout Mexico, Europe, India and parts of Central and South America.  She also has a lot of fun coaching her 5-year-old son’s soccer team.
