First Day – Monday, June 16th

8:00 to 10:00	Opening Session	Welcoming Comments and Review of Week’s/Day’s Schedule Introduction of Opening Day Leadership Academy Keynote Speaker: Dr. Carlos Von Son This is a plenary session; all Academy Leadership and students attend; Science Hall II - Room 242
10:00 to 12:00	Leadership 1	This is the first in a series of Leadership Presentations and is provided by Marcos Martinez, Professor and Department Chair, Visual & Performing Arts Department at CSU San Marcos. The focus will be on developing leadership presentation skills. A writing and presentation assignment will be incorporated into this kickoff session – Science 242
12:00 to 1:00	Lunch	Group has a 1-hour lunch in the University Village Complex
1:00 to 3:00	Leadership 2	Second in a series of Leadership Presentations and will consist of a panel of college students who are currently enrolled at Mira Costa College, Palomar College, and CSU San Marcos. The panel will provide 15-minute presentations on their personal journeys to and while attending college. The presentations will be followed by a question and answer session – Science 242
3:00 to 5:00	Health and Fitness	This is a plenary session; all Academy Leadership staff and students attend. During this education session, the first element is a health topic followed by a physical activity – Science 242
5:30 to 7:00	Group Dinner	Group has 1½ hours for dinner in the UV Complex, including bus trip to Palomar College
7:00 to 8:30	“Rap Session”	Evening’s guest: Mr. Marcos Martinez Mr. Martinez is an accomplished stage artist who will be sharing elements of his personal path through the world of drama. He will be performing a monologue entitled “Holy Dirt” scheduled at Palomar College in Performance Lab D - 10

10:30 to 12:00	Leadership 3	“Leadership College” Third in a series of Leadership Presentations presented by Rocky Chavez Vice Mayor and candidate for Mayor of the City of Oceanside– Science 242

7:00 to 9:00	“Rap Session”	Evening’s guest: Mr. David Maldonado Mr. Maldonado is an accomplished guitarist who has traveled the world and performed internationally, yet remains a local product calling his home San Diego (University Village Rec. Room)

Third Day – Wednesday, June 18th

7:30 – 8:30	Pre-Tour and Transport	Prepare and load all Academy Leadership Team with assigned students onto the transportation bus for morning commute for planned field trip to Tri-City Medical Center in Oceanside.
8:30 to 12:00	Panel Presentation and Tour	“Health Education And Leadership” Welcoming from the Hospital District Board Chairman, Mr. Larry Schallock, TCMC President & CEO, Dr. Art Gonzalez and Chief Nurse Executive, Suellyn Ellerbe. A panel of presenters representing various occupations within the Tri-City Medical Center will provide information covering the required competencies associated with working inside a present-day hospital setting. Presenters will cover various roles and responsibilities within the health care professions. A tour will follow the presentations – Assembly Room 2
12:00 to 1:00	Lunch	Group will be provided lunch immediately following the Medical Center’s tour.
1:00 to 2:00	Transport	Return bus trip to CSU San Marcos.
2:00 to 2:30	Leadership 6	Financial Leadership Sixth in a series of Leadership Presentations presented by: Mr. Luis Mata, Assistant Vice President at San Marcos Bank of America

7:00 to 8:30	“Rap Session”	Evening’s guest: Mr. Frank Puchi Mr. Puchi is an Associate Professor and Counselor on the campus of Palomar College in San Marcos. He will be leading a lively discussion on staying focused on the important goals in life. (University Village – Rec. Room)

Fourth Day – Thursday, June 19th

7:00 to 8:00	Pre-Tour and Transport	Prepare and load all Academy Leadership Team with assigned students for planned field trip to Chicano Park in San Diego. Breakfast en route.
9:15 to 11:45	Field Trip Visit to Historic Chicano Park	Exploring and Discovering Local History Chicano Park, Barrio Logan, San Diego is in southeast San Diego and is referred to as “el ombligo” (navel), the center of the world. Mexican-Americans settled into the area as early as the 1890’s. Since 1971, annual celebrations earmark the historic takeover of the park by community activists on April 22, 1970. One thousand people attended the inaugural celebration that included cultural events and political speeches. Today, Chicano Park is a symbol of community pride and sacrifice to save a culture and a neighborhood. It stands as a positive example to other neighborhoods regarding the preservation of culture, family and community.

7:00 to 8:30	“Rap Session”	Evening’s guest: Mr. Calvin “One Deer” Gavin Mr. Gavin is the Director of Grant Funded Student Programs on the campus of Palomar College in San Marcos. His programs include GEAR UP. Mr. Gavin has provided critical support and leadership to the development of Encuentros. (University Village – Recreation Room)

Fifth Day – Friday, June 20th

Introduction of Good Morning Academy Keynote Speakers: Narciso Iglesias Assistant Principal, Elsinore School District This is a plenary session; all Academy Leadership and students attend. Science Hall II – Room 242
10:30 to 12:00	Prepàrate	Preparing for College Tomàs Rodriguez Admissions Recruiter, CSU San Marcos
12:00 to 1:00	Lunch	Group has a 1-hour lunch in the University Village Complex
1:00 to 2:00	Campus Tour	Team Leaders will conduct 1-Hour Campus Tour
2:00 to 4:30	Presentations	Student Leadership Presentation Marcos Martinez Academy students will present a 3-minute verbal report. Presentations will be video recorded and written evaluations completed by each student.
4:30 to 5:30	Health and Fitness	Leadership Teams will participate in an outdoor activity.
5:30 to 7:00	Group Dinner	Group has 1½ hours for dinner in the UV Complex
7:00 to 8:30	“Rap Session”	Evening’s guest: Mr. Mark Evilsizer Mr. Evilsizer is President of Encuentros and Elected Member of the College Board of Trustees at Palomar College. He will be leading a discussion on giving back to your community. (University Village – Recreation Room)

Sixth Day – Saturday, June 21st

8:30 to 10:30	Closure and Commitment	The final group meeting to complete final assignments and synopsize the week’s activities. Each Academy student will submit a minimum one-page report, complete an Academy evaluation, participate in the annual group photo session, and complete a contact information sheet.
10:30 to 12:00	Individual Time Checkout Family Campus Tours	Checkout procedures, personal time and an opportunity to tour family members who are not familiar with CSU San Marcos.
12:00 to 1:00	Lunch	Clarke Field House will be the site of a Family Luncheon and departing program.
1:00 to 3:00	Academy “Graduation” Keynote Guest Speaker Farewell Ceremony	Academy students and family members will convene at the Clarke Field House Complex for a program that will include: A keynote address delivered by: Dr. Francisco Reveles Professor, CSU Sacramento Author of “Encuentros: Homre A Hombre” A final farewell ceremony will include a recognition and awards component.
