MNHS DIVISION MEETING

The weekly meeting of the Palomar College Mathematics and the Natural and Health Sciences Division chairs and director was held on Wednesday, February 13, 2002, at 8:00 a.m. in AA-109.
1. Order of business
Mike Rourke, Division Dean, called the meeting to order at 8:07 a.m.
Members Present: Mike Rourke, Jim Gilardi, Ed Groschwitz, Jean Landmesser, Takashi Nakajima, Al Trujillo, Wendy Metzger
Member Absent: Kathy Clyne

2. Items of concern
Jean Landmesser reported another gas leak in S-11. Facilities determined that the gas was leaking in S-11 and S-12. They turned off the gas but did not fix the leaks. Facilities is scheduled to return today to check the leaks.
Takashi Nakajima reported that the doors in the S-building are warped especially S-4 and S-6.
Jim Gilardi reported that the door to LS-24 cannot be locked. He expressed his department’s concern about re-keying at the Escondido Center. Life Sciences would like control over who is issued a key to the EC-401 storeroom. Jim Gilardi asked about funding to have a fume hood installed in LS-20. After a brief discussion, Mike Rourke asked Jim Gilardi to submit a work request to have the fume hood installed.
Al Trujillo asked if there was money available for faculty travel. Mike Rourke said that there is some money available on a first-come, first-served basis. Al Trujillo also asked about the availability of the standard load report. Members discussed using the report as a scheduling tool. Mike Rourke stated that the report is accessible through instructional reports in PeopleSoft. He will develop instructions and email them to the chairs and director.
Al Trujillo expressed his concerns about budget development for 2002/03 and requested training. Discussion followed. Due to the uncertainty of the State’s budget, Fiscal Services has asked departments to submit three budgets (continuation, augmentation, and reduction) by March 1. Mike Rourke reported that Jerry Patton as agreed to attend a division meeting to answer everyone’s questions.
Ed Groschwitz reported that the remodel of CH-16 is progressing slowly. There is no change except that the walls have been painted.
Wendy Metzger reported that her department has two nonfunctioning data projectors that Audio Visual has not been able to repair yet.
3. Information Items
a. Timeline for educational and facilities master plans
Mike Rourke distributed copies of the timeline for the development of the educational and facilities master plans.
4. Other
Mike Rourke reported that Diane Lutz should have office spaces finalized by this summer. He briefly discussed moving the ES-9 servers to E-3 to create space for offices.
5. Ron’s celebration
Ron Phillips arrived at 8:50 a.m. Mike Rourke presented him with an engraved pocket watch. Ron Phillips thanked everyone.
6. Adjournment
Mike Rourke adjourned the meeting at 8:55 a.m. so everyone could visit with Ron Phillips and enjoy the cake.
